Allways Transport, Hamilton

Im thinking of phoning this company to ask about jobs, ive been speaking to Webber on another of my threads and he suggested giving them a phone.

Has anyone else worked for or had any dealings with this company?

Just looking for a general opinion on the job, i know they pull trailers for mammoet.

Thanks.

Ok, if you want to drive for 3 hours a day, and do no work whatsoever it’s not for you, if you don’t want to get dirty, it’s not for you, if you want to lie in your pit until 8 am every day, it’s not for you. However, if you want to max out your driving time EVERY day, don’t mind the AVERAGE pay, can live with being away ALL week, then maybe it is for you. Only you can decide, make the phone call, or not, for every negative comment about them, there will be a positive. The fact that they are always looking for drivers is not as clean cut as it may appear, lots of steering wheel attendants get a rude awakening when they start there, one thing is for sure, you will NEVER be asked to run bent, and if you do, you WILL walk.

I dont mind doing a bit of work, whats tipping the mammoet trailers like? Do you go into the back and tip it yourself and i take it u reload it after you tip?

Yes i can imagine drivers who are used to driving and not doing anything else will not like doing a bit of work!

Also, how does the wage system work, Webby was saying no 2 drivers are the same?

Have you just passed your test mate ?

Tipping the Mammoet trailers is exactly the same as any other trailer, yes, sometimes you have to go in the back of the trailer, Lidl etc. Yes, you re-load, you would be better phoning them direct regarding the wages, and remember, some drivers have been known to over inflate what they earn. I was not interested in what anybody else claimed to be earning, they tell you the wage structure at the interview, if it’s enough for you then accept the job, if not, don’t.

Yes ill prob give them a call tomorrow and see if they are looking for anyone, have you worked for them yourself mate?

Three of my mates have previously worked for Allways. They run good units, pulling a mixed bag of Mammoet tilts, some good, some crap. You are a true ‘tramper’ in that you drive all day all week, maxxing your card out every day in order to get the maximum wage available. Big mileage each week essential…if you don’t like or are not perpared to drive 9 or 10 hrs per day don’t apply as you won’t like it/succeed in earning any money. The tipping is no problem and yes the drivers do assist, frequently stripping back the trailer at tipping/reloading points.

I could think of a lot worse jobs and firms to work for. You’ll know within the week if it’s for you or not.

Why did your mates leave the job if you dont mind me asking mate? Ive heard there arent any “real” tilts anymore, its all just tautliners?

What sort of wage roughly can you expect to earn in a normal week?

One couldn’t handle tramping, came from a day job and went straight back to one after a short time. The second one was there longer but didn’t like being away all the time either. The third one was there yonks and liked it, left for a job with more money.

Both

It’s up to you mate…the less miles you do in a week the less your wages will be. As I said you need to keep moving, running your card out every day and parking up when you run out of hours if possible, not before. The wages were not the highest for the amount of weekly driving involved but they were OK, the units are in very good nick, one driver per truck. Typical tramping job really. You will need a satnav and a good map as you’ll go to some far-flung parts of the UK.

Wages are a bit tight i think, fixed salary of 25k when away all week. I see them advertising for drivers often enough. Always the same though with companys that pay badly. JBT’s another bad payer always needing drivers.

Is that the take home figure at 25k, also as said above if you do more miles i take it you get more than that? Id just rather have a full time job again, hate being on the agency, phoning day by day!!

Did you give them a ring mate ?

Yeah i gave them a phone yesterday, just said that they aint looking for drivers at the moment and he took my name and number and said he would phone me if anything comes up.

Did offer me some weekend work though if the agency is quiet, something about running down to Hull, dropping trailer off and picking one up then back up the road.

Ive got work with the agency this week so told him if its quiet and he hasnt phoned me i may take him up on the offer.

Sounds like a good result mate :sunglasses:
