All hands to the pumps!

Busy old day for us today - our own fleet fully employed, plus a load of extra hired-in 7.5T and 18T rigids. Shame no-one thought to ensure there were enough pump trucks to go round…
So many vehicles that every full-timer and agency bod they could muster was used - they also sent out the driver trainer, the yard man and even one of the planners!

With the travel totty on the wireless telling us that it was going to be one of the busiest days of the year on the roads, I wasn’t looking forward to my run down to Southampton, leaving Northampton at 7am. I fully expected to be held up in queues at all the usual pinch points (plus a few more besides) but no! - No queues on the A43 for the M40, no queues on M40 exit for A34, no queues anywhere around Oxford, not even a queue for the M3 at Winchester and very light traffic on the M3 itself. Same when I came back later - not a single queue anywhere along the A34. Most unexpected.

I’m just being towed back along M25 and there was more traffic on it at 7am then now 6pm

Have to say nothing ruins a day of multidrop more than getting in the back at the first drop with no forklift and finding the pump truck is some crappy old knackered thing.
