And what a shock to the system it will be! - Driven Daf Cf with 4 over 4 gearbox and went onto Iveco Stralis’s (or is that Strali? lol!) for about 3 years now and everyone is having a big shuffle around truck wise in the yard. The two mids based guys (i.e. me and other driver) will be given the hire units whilst waiting for new Scanias to arrive to clock the miles up on them…
So, apparently according one of the drivers one is an opticruise (i think i’ve said that right?) and other is a 3 over 3 manual box unit. I know i sound like a right n00b and yes take the ■■■■, but just curious as to 1) How the opticruise works - is it just like a normal auto like in my stralis? and 2) 3 over 3 - I’m assuming works the sams as a 4 over 4? Just with erm, yeah less gears?.. start in 2, then 3, range - 4,5,6…
Maybe it’s the tiredness settling in or my brains not getting into gear… see that there?! But any help appreciated
hi pal if the scania is an uptodate model the opticruise is on a stalk on steering wheel it’s simple drive neutrel and reverse and h for hill you still need a clutch to stop and start. if it’s an older motor the opticruise is like a gear stick but you just select n,d,r or knock side to side for up and down gears. The 3 over 3 is exactly has you think 1st is where second would be and then it just follows on 2nd where 3rd should be. hope this helps and you will notice a difference the gear stick in the new scanias feels like you could snap it.
Firstly, commisserations on being given a Scania, esp if it`s the one with opticruise.
I drive a Scania with opticruise and to say it`s pants is an understatement. just find it a real pain, especially when empty, set off in 4th then goes 7th,10th 12th. I find it easier to use it in the manual option.

Have you tried reseting the gear it selects for setting off in pal? But you are rite they are pants, dont think scania’s are as good as they use to be whats the split bottom bunk all about?
Thanks for the replies chaps, they came in this morning so spent an hour or so hauling my gear over and stuff. That was the easy bit, the hardest part was trying to put stuff into non existant cupboards! I know all vehicles are different and have pros and cons but, wow!
Luckily no ad blue woohoo! and for a 6 wheeler has 300 litre tanks either side, result! Means i can do two trips before going back to refill. Had a spin around the yard to see how it works and think i can get used to it easily enough. Although when coming to a stop with the clutch pressed in, the thing does clunk into a gear… is this normal? And on the stalk selector there is H and D, i just switched it into H and seemed ok. Usually im 34ton fully freighted so not too much work wise for the ol’ girl
Had a spin in the manual as well, good fun after being in an auto for a long time
(edit- why is the word used to describe sometimes putting on the kettle banned?)

Thankies!
It doesn’t!! See the thread 'R440 advice…Think it was Shuttle Spanker who summed it up a treat
Hah yeah just read that, not looking good i feel! Just takes getting used to i guess like any new motor you jump into… i hope fingers crossed!
@Scanny - Nah it’s ok as i only really derv up in the yard. Problem is our fuel cards now don’t work in the kiosks for some reason and only on auto machine, so cant get two pumps going like at M6 Derv in W’hampton… D’Oh!
