Not seen owt of you for ages Jeff , little bird tells me you could be flitting soon , anywhere planned yet ? Dave

They ran a trunk down to Park Royal for Marks and Spencers in the early seventies.

Bumper (Jim) sent me this photo and allowed me to post it on this site, the thing is I am not sure whether this is the company I am looking for.

Alfred Bell had an out based workshop opposite my home to service a contract they had with Resil Plastics in Howden. I seem to think they were from Stockport. They were running Leyland redline and Bedfords at the time. My mum worked for the polystyrene company and was taken on by Springfield Haulage when they lifted the Vencel Resil contract from Bells

Any other information or pictures welcome.

I googled them this afternoon, maybe I can have a look myself. We are coming up to Wallsend for my birthday, & maybe nip up to Berwick for a couple of crabs.

Beer skittles and fish and chips too in Whitley bay. when the boat comes in :stuck_out_tongue:

Wasnt there an Alfred Bell that used to do a lot of Containers ?

Bell Line Containers was Blue or Lilac and I think it is part of Lucy’s company now. Not sure Alfred Bell had anything to do with it though.

That is they. They seemed to have fingers in lots of pies. My Mums job was very lightweight stuff, polystyrene tiles, coving and insulation. The single axle flat beds carried the 8 x 4 x 2 polystyrene cylinders and blocks loaded 6 high under sheets. The only bloke I can remember working as a driver died about 15 years ago, there is a fitter I am trying to contact through facebook.

I will persevere. Thanks for all information

Alfred Bell had a place on Earl road, Stanley Green Industrial Estate, Cheadle Hulme. My brother worked there for a time in the 70s delivering toilet rolls, possibly for F H Lee. He used to go round telling everybody what a bum job he had
Hope this helps
