I might have a job working on a aldi contract delivering to the stores at night. Any ine guve me info on doing this?

Also i hit a tree today and took off my n/s wide angle mirror can i use it 2mozs or if i get stopped will i be up ■■■■ creek?

Im being told it doesnt matter but i thought i needed one on the n/s but not the o/s?..

Any link to vose or anything to back that up?

Dan

I’m not sure of the legalities but knowing how much of a pain it is not having that mirror adjusted correctly I’d not want to spend a day without it.

But, we have some silly tight drops where it’s useful.

are you for real. tell your boss to get it fixed or you ain’t driving…

Hi Dan,
Re your mirror how can work say your wide angle mirror not matter.? Surely when you do your daily check and sign your defect sheet you can’t sign it to say “No defect” with a mirror missing and I’m sure VOSA would take a dim view of it.
As for Aldi not worked for them but have done night time store deliveries for Bhs roads are emptier but trying to find places in the dark and no1 about to ask can be a pain in the you know where.

Jeff

Thought this was another wind up. I hope I’m right.

Boss and driver?

How will you see the cyclist ?

Be surprised if you see anything when things get a bit tricky or in traffic,if you hit someone with no n/s wide angle mirror not only VOSA but the rozzers will be all over you like a rash and your in deep sh*t.
Can’t see your boss saying to the rozzers “it’s ok I told him to go out without it it’s my fault”. Yeah right

You have a key to the backdoor, let yourself in, unload the pallets, reload the empty ones then leave.

While unloading and teloading pallets it is best to select the tacho mode on the cross hammers of other work and not on bed or rest as it is a fine and fraud if Vosa check delivery\arrival times at a later date.
Cctv records the activities at the stores that they can use.
Working alone at night? What if you have an accident or become ill.?Is that legal?
For the mirror. It is an offence to drive it like that.Maybe call out a mechanic to sort it.I think yiu may have the smaller mirror under the larger mirror thst is broken. Is that right.?

You’re gonna be further up [zb] creek if you hit something without that mirror on. Winding the office up for a few minutes is a lot less hassle than turning a cyclist into a pancake.

It may seem daft to say it but lock the cab doors.Who knows who is around at night.A regular arrival time too.Or take the valuables in the pocket while out back.
A pet shop distrubution driver left his cab unlocked at night. The passwords and codes were stolen from the cab and his personal stuff. The locks had to changed at other stores too.The cost of that was a lot.
Maybe there is a garage open all night that may repair the mirror.

Mirror missing wouldn’t ever be seen as a defect acceptable to carry over two days and frankly few are. I’m guessing but would think wide angle, provided main is fine, would probably be viewed as ok to drive to place of repair and that’s it.

What you say about n/s and o/s is correct on the basis you can look over your shoulder on the o/s. Vosa have a diagram for what area you’re supposed to be able to see in your n/s mirrors without adjusting them from the driver’s seat.

Aldi direct or contract via current firm?

How would anyone know you had no mirror, unless you told them. Just lie through your teeth. Lorries in the past never had wide angle mirrors, I think they only started being common end of Eighties maybe later, the first one I had was on an L reg Daf.

Don’t know how we managed :unamused:

Its a firm on contract to them but not current lorrys based in andover drive to swindon load then drive to south coast areas and unload.

Thanks everyone i knew i was right just wanted backing up i came in and told them i didnt want to take it and after a few moments of words was given a diffrent one.

I was trying to get in before leaving COOP. Trouble is you have to go temp to perm via a agency and it was like talking to a brick wall!!

I liked the sound of the work, most are large yards and all have bays with elec pallet trucks. Normally you unlock, unload, lock and leave.

The Aldi nearest where I live doesn’t have a bay.
simply a shutter, so I guess its wheel a pallet to the rear door, jump down and lift off with forktruck, jump back up and repeat.

Might have either a scissor lift type thing in the floor or the sort you move around like a pump truck. Both are quite common at various supermarkets that don’t have a traditional bay.

if there is a scissor lift its indoors.
