Aldi goldthorpe

Hello all i,m thinking of going to aldi goldthorpe on nights,i know its self load/tip but whats the job like, ive had afew people telling me its awful but theyve never done the job,so that figures lol.Alot say its awful to get through car park to unload but working nights that wouldnt be a issue. Also people say you cant get stock in when at the store as its rammed full so you have to spend ages juggling everything about.Thoughts from someone who,s done or doing the job

Aldi is very much a hands-on job with lots of problem solving.

Loading the truck sometimes is like a jigsaw puzzle, different size pallets, some stacked tall, some stacked low. It’s up to you to put extra shrink wrap on pallets that need it so they don’t collapse. You might find your load won’t fit on at the first attempt, so back to the drawing board to find a way of getting it all on. When you get to the store, the warehouse might be rammed and/or a tip so you have to find a way of getting everything in, stores will sometimes leave or give you instructions as to where certain types of things need to go.

Getting to the loading bays inside carparks during the day can be a PITA, a lot of Aldi stores don’t have car parks big enough so cars parked everywhere. Obviously not a problem on nights, some can only be done at night.

I’ve not driven for Aldi, but spoke to & saw their drivers in action a lot whilst delivering milk to Aldi’s for a good few years. It’s not really a driving job, your a warehouse worker who drives.

Was thinking of going there myself before I got my current job.
To be honest the shift pattern puts me off was told its 5 over 7 so lots of weekends.
They seem to be struggling to get drivers I see constant adverts for them and I thought when it opened they would be a mad rush of drivers wanting to go in…
I guess not everyone wants that shift pattern,as I think the money is pretty good

Not many supermarket RDCs dont work 5/7 shifts, sign of the times.
With the constant expansion of RDC operations all over the company they require more Drivers

Lad left our spot to go there. From what I’ve heard he seems to be enjoying it. Sure shift pattern they gave him was 4 on, 2 off?

I’m in Scotland and yes we are constantly looking for drivers but the business is expanding, driver turn over is low. Weekend work unfortunately comes with working for retail shops. The work isn’t difficult, yes getting in and out of some stores is difficult but not impossible, loading and unloading is done using electric pallet trucks and once you get used to working out how to put pallets it doesn’t take that long. Also because of how busy we are getting they are using loaders more often these days so you generally get a hand or even your trailer loaded for you. Money is decent for low hours and no overnights. It’s a job you will either like or hate.

I think id like the work but I love my family weekend time too much,

Sorry to revive such an old topic but I could do with some current information.

I’ve been offered an assessment here but want to know the shift pattern worked at this depot.

Does anyone know for sure whether it’s 5 in 7, 5 on 3 off or something else?

At Bolton it’s 5 on 3 off. I guess it would be the same at goldthorpe.

I worked it out once on paper you basically end up over 8 weeks getting 2 full weekends off, and a then a couple of part weekends. If you can cope with that it’s a well paid job. The amount of weekends working meant it wasn’t worth it to me.

Thanks.
I don’t think I’ll bother in that case.

I was hoping they’d do 4o4o where you still do a lot of weekends but for me the amount of free time would tip the balance.
