Sorry but I’ve got to have a rant to get it off my chest…
I’ve got 26 tons on my trailer so naturally I’m going to be accelerating away from lights slowly and braking for things early. Had an Aldi artic behind me, got into a lane system where you had to enter it in the right lane and then it went into 2 lanes. Was trying to move over into the left lane but had to wait for a gap, I was accelerating very slowly due to the weight and as soon as there was a gap the Aldi driver nips into the left lane before I had chance to move, undertakes me, then comes past me looking at me with is arms in the air as if to say “what are you doing”.
Tossed. If your reading this then have fun playing around with your few tons of food on board that you can clearly throw around and can’t be patient while I’m hauling 26 tons about on the same roads.
Really winds me up this! Other HGV drivers who can’t be patient and can’t seem to understand the physics of moving a vehicle so big and heavy. When car drivers do it you can’t expect them to understand but when HGV drivers do it…grrrrrrr
Had a similar experience yesterday. Leaving Melksham northbound on the A350. A parcel double decker (interlink) leading the way.
And good man too, rather than tearing it through the village, sticks to speed limit. Until we reach the National limit … where he sticks to 30-35 mph, occasionally forgetting and creeping up to 40. Ok, give him the benefit of the doubt, the yard monkeys may have loaded all the fridges and washing machines on the top deck…
We hit the Chippenham bypass. Still 30mph… until we hit the dual carriage stretches. Down goes his foot…
I put it down to him driving an Axor.

The thing is, fellow HGV drivers or not, not everybody has the time/patience etc to sit behind a lumbering slow vehicle.
The fact is, whilst I had to pull away slow, I caught him up at every set of lights and I didn’t have to stop where as through his rushing ahead he did! So it’s not even about not having time as I was right behind him until I turned off!

I always like it when that happens & it often does!
I take a bit of pride in my fuel figures & never rush so if i’m fully loaded it can sometimes be a bit slow to get moving without revving the ■■■■ off it. Can’t say I have noticed my finish times get considerably later since my days when I was guilty of racing around a bit.

Good timing on your part then! Every set of lights?
I had a ■■■■■ in a Audi behind me today who kept pulling out trying to push me (like a car can push an artic ) so just for the pure pleasure of annoying him I slowed down on the approach to all the roundabouts where he wanted to overtake giving me a clear run into them with no cars in front. I know it was juvenile and “not professional” but it cheered me up no end.

I’ve had an ICDABS fitted to my right boot (at my own expense I might add ),which I find very effective.
Otherwise known as Impatient Car Driver Automatic Braking System
