Hi all,i was really surprised to hear that Aldi decided to build their new DC in Cardiff and not site it just across the bridge in Avonmouth with the rest of them.It will surely be a welcome boost for drivers like myself who commute over the bridge to earn a decent wage then fork out on fuel and bridge tolls.I’ve read the posts about Aldi
(good and bad) but i for one will be applying there when it’s up and running. With a bit of luck it’ll push up the rates in the South Wales area.
Where precisely will it be going ? They’ll probably be paying their drivers South Wales rates I’d have thought.

It’s on the Wentloog business park off the docks rd on the A48 into Cardiff,I got talking to a Swindon driver and they pay the same rates nationally.Although it won’t be up and running till next year.
Sounds good then I bet they’ll be inundated with cv’s when the time comes.
I bet Rhys Davies are ■■■■■■■■ themselves.
If they are anything like Lidl they will expect three mens work for one mans pay, this seems to be a happening more and more, they are not happy with you driving the bloody truck and helping out they want you to load/drive/unload/reload/unload at the depot, my mate tell me Abbey Logistics in Hull want Day/Night drivers on the same type of thing, I am now retired than God, but this seems a bit much bearing in mind these places don’t pay vast wages.
There are loads of DC’s your side of the bridge… Tesco, Asda and Wilkinson all within a few miles of each other. AFAIK they don’t pay “Welsh Rates” either
Surely they must all get some kind of development agency grant for it to make any sense.

If Drivers didn`t want to do that type of work they would not accept it,they have a choice.
Aldi pay a lot better than most, never take what "mates"or what a third party hear say as gospel.
Aldi Atherstone is in house and Lidl at Magna Park is or was subbies

Three, all just inside the bridge if you live the other side of Cardiff it’s a fair way to go everyday my point being it would make a hell of a difference not having to drive 40-50 miles every day to get to work. And the rumours are that Tesco Magor days are numbered too.
Seems that alot of people are scared of a bit of graft these days,I drive for aldi, and apart from a bit of variation it also keeps the waistline down !!!

Errr… don’t you really mean that you and I and the rest of the tax payers are taken for a ride again in having to subsidise another multi-million pound, multi-national company? Just watch the bank, hedge fund and other financial speculators rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of those nice fat government grants. And no rubbish about pension funds investments, their returns are now rivaling the lines of an endowment mortgage for value.
dunno about all that but aldi and lidl have sunk tesco and co.
Aldi’s self tip/load isn’t really a major hardship. It’s all done with electric trucks. Ok, it may be a hardship to actually walk along with the store ones, but the w/house ones are normally stand on versions, so all that’s getting a major workout is your thumbs!!

Like many other companies they receive government subsidies because they provide a lot of employment.

Aldi are a 100% family owned so none of the usual parasites you mention will be gaining anything.

That my tax money is being given to a family, as a bribe, to get them to build something in Wales makes me feel so much better now. I’m actually glad I didn’t spend that money on some new clothes, for the kids, myself now.

These would be the zero hours/annualised hours/part time/minimum wage, menial jobs forced upon highly skilled workers because the parasites in the financial world reckoned that they could make a killing by merging and centralising. These ‘jobs’ of course than pontificated about by the look-at-me, look what I’ve done, rosette-wearing toff to whom, as long as he can call it a job then he can come up with some set of imaginary figures to illustrate how clever he is.
Oh yeah… ratata…ratatata…ratatatatatatat.
Vote for Wolfie Smith.

I thought you could only vote for Wolfie Smith if you lived in Tooting
I’m starting on this contract Monday . It’s 2 days up in Swindon training then the rest of the time working from a temp area on Wentloog. From what I’ve seen of the company it looks pretty good .
