Albion coal lorry at work? Looks like it, but why hasn’t that modern-looking house behind it got any chimneys? If it’s a preservation job, it’s jolly realistic! An enigmatic picture. Robert1
It was definitely working for Sibleys well into the 1970s, I used to see it at rallies all over the place, loaded ready for work on Monday morning. It’s a1937 KL127 converted to Albion diesel engine in the mid-50s. Brian Sibley showed me how they had to modify the rear brake rods to get it to pull up square for it’s test (mine’s never had a test, with it’s standard set-up it tends to “twerk” a bit on heavy braking in the wet because of the layout of the rods.) Sibleys were in Rownhams, so the old girl was a good way from home in Exeter. Here’s a picture I took about 1972. At the time Sibleys were also still working a wartime Austin K4.

Thanks Albion1938 and all those who responded to my post . Robert

76ish had ex ARC Lad cabbed Riever UJU ***H ( photo on this site somewhere ) for 3 months. From memory shift pattern was, bang knuckles/bang elbow/knuckles/elbow/knuckles, reverse bang elbow. From memory so certainly wrong. Amongst all the motors I drove she were an oddosity.

Above reads like I,m one of them fellas who find a topic then slag em off, not so for me.
UJU were def a funnyosity but I didn,t mind her she only wanted to go in straight lines but suppose she would with 2/3 of weight on 8 tyres n rest on 2.
WUT 526 J were next Ergo n a fine tool, perpetually putting up/down coalsides ,gaffer were doing my head in. I liked Ergo cab n she was warm n went well n went where you pointed her. Last L reg Bathgate cab 6spd with o/drive on top 3. Would have drove her for evermore a nice bit of kit in her day. Warm ,moved along at a pace, good box n nice cab layout.
Out of curiosity were those 3 basically the same motor with different cabs ?

0Ive just received this one from Bumper, Regards Larry.
looks like North Bar Beverley to me
Some great stuff on here now, keep it coming and thanks.
Reivers,Tarmac must have had 100s of em, though strangely not Cliffe Hill (except they had some Bathgate on the mixer work) where I worked, classic tipper but what I never understood was why no 8 whlr ( the cameroon I,ve seen pic but never on the road) Pre B L they made em so why not after. B L had the Octopus, Scammel n AEC M Major so surely an Albion would have slotted in nicely. Anybody know why ?

Just noticed this now the thread’s been resurrected, it’s only taken me 9 months! Yes Pete, that’s the right date, I’d had the motor for 2 years by then. A couple of mates of mine were into buses, they got me to take the Albion along to a huge bus rally, I think it was about the only lorry there, in the big railway goods yards at Somers Town.
Merry Christmas everybody.
