Alan McGuinness

A lad on here requested a few pics of Mr McGuinness’s Volvos. This is all I have at hand, but I know I have a few more elsewhere.More to follow !

Nice one Bonkey! Just what I like to see.

i havent seen any off his motors about for a while any way heres the ones ive got he was parked next to use at barnard castle truck show a couple of years ago there could be more at www.theeventscentre.co.uk

You won’t see his tippers about anymore I’m afraid due to a combination of bad luck,a painful (and expensive) seperation from his missus and just sheer ‘fed upness’ from Alan’s part.

He’s still driving though,he owns an oldish FM12 eight wheeler on the quarry job.I’ll have to get a pic taken of it and boost it on here. But it hasn’t got the lavish paint job seen on his recent wagons. To look at it,you wouldn’t associate it with Alan at all. It’s just a plain white cabbed insulated tipper, the likes of which are ten a penny round these parts.I think he wants to remain incognito nowadays.

Certainly a shame as the recent Volvos he owned were a beauty and no mistake.Even Corgi got in on the act and produced a model of one, insulated body and easysheet an’ all.

Thought so! I was going to buy the 06 reg Volvo 440 off him when it was only 14 months old. But I was so desperate at the time to get another truck on the road, he could’nt let me have it because he had’nt found a replacement, so I had to buy another one.

Thats sad news Bonkey, I saw some of his trucks for sale in the Commercial Motor a little while ago. Didn’t he have one hit by a foreign lorry? :frowning:

That’s right BB,he did.I think McGinty himself was doing the driving when it happened. The location for the accident was Stoney Middleton just down from Tarmac’s (ex Wimpey Asphalt) Darlton quarry where McGinty’s wagons pulled out of.I forget exactly if he was loaded coming downhill or heading back to the quarry empty going uphill, but he did have a coming together with a foreigner who was on the completely wrong side of the road.McGinty had to spend time in hospital,a few weeks, and the wagon was a write off,but he persevered, got himself well and using the insurance cash got another identical specced FM onto the road.

Sadly, when it came to the crunch and everything got on top of him, this was an accident that Alan just couldn’t put behind him. But,to still be owner driving to this day,he deserves a medal.(Or a spell in the local nut house) :unamused:
