Airbags as standard fitment

Why…

Don’t ALL trucks have the benefit of airbags?

If the safety conscious Volvo fit them as standard to their trucks (and have done for many years) why is it that other manufacturers can’t do the same?

And/Or, why aren`t they specced by companies if they are options? Could it just possibly have anything to do with cost??
Any other reasons?

My own boss certainly isnt LOreal: he clearly doesnt think that "Im worth it"!

May be because trucks don’t have to them by law.

Remember one of the reasons the Defender was took out of production was that it couldn’t be fitted with airbags without major redesign. It takes a lot of engineering to get the trigger mechanisms/crumple zones right and some truck cabs and chassis may not lend themselves to airbag fitment.

I dont think that they are a compulsory fitment in UK and Euro cars either? Rare not to see them sure, but are they required? I reckon you have a point regarding the DeepEnder as airbags werent even an option were they? And since the US does have a requirement for airbags, that became a lost market for them.

I will say one thing, I have seen a fair few crashed and battered trucks but I haven’t seen many with the airbags gone. I saw a Volvo FM have the cab moved of its mountings and the airbag never went.

Really?? I did wonder that, but having not heard them called before I assumed it was an autocorrect! I was waiting for Dipper_Dave to come and tell us what it was so I wouldn’t have to Google it!! [emoji23]

Never occurred to me that it might be in DDs territory! Spose that shows how innocent I am. :unamused:

A Landy fan might think that DeepEnder is complimentary referring to the ability of the vehicle to wade rivers.
Others` may think it refers to the ability of Landys to dig a way into the deepest of wallets, and anyone owning one is jumping in at the deep end.

(I`ve owned two Landys, but now have an old LandCrusher.)

It’s cos you’re not supposed to go round hitting things.
