Air leak Scania

Been driving a 63 plate rigid G series. I reckon its got an air leak, Scania doesn’t seem to think so. Last Thursday I parked up in Southampton and took a photo of the air tank readout then took another in the morning.

Thursday evening

Friday morning.

Add to that this morning I had no air at all after it was left with 8 ton of paper on over the weekend. I still believe there is a leak as the Premium I used to drive didn’t leak any air.

There has to be a reason you’ve lost all that air overnight, it doesn’t disappear on its own! But if you can’t hear any air escaping though it’s got to be so slight it’s not worth worrying about, and nor will the DVSA if you get pulled.

I haven’t been able to check as I’ve not had it quite enough around me yet. Its got to have a decent leak to loose about half the tank in the space of about 12 hours.

Could be you bouncing around in the air seat, wind blowing the truck around and losing air from the suspension, Losing half a tank of air overnight is not unusual

I can understand on an artic but on a rigid? The Premium I used to drive didn’t lose any air unless I pumped the brake and dumped the air out.

My Old series 4 rigid often lost air overnight, the bed used to sink on the bags. It did have a lowering bed though.
It did it more often if I left the lift axle up.
Never a problem though, once it was turned and checks where done it was well up.

Only Scania would design a gauge that has 4 units across with the number 6 annotated :unamused: .

Auto or manual?
You leaving it in what gear or position have you dumped air out the seat or left it inflated
There’s a lot of questions that F you do one or the other will cause loss of air

Its a three pedal Opticruise model so always left in neutral. I don’t let the seat down but I will tonight to see if that makes a difference.

I’m no mechanic but I have found that in cases with no audible leak and losing air overnight it’s sometimes leaking into the gearbox. Our Actros’s are prone to it.

Thats why you have a compressor.
Clearly the circuit protection valve is working thats why it locks off at about 6 bar.
Its probably "leaking"back through the compressor valves and there is nothing you can do about it.You cannot fit a none return valve in the main compressor line. The elements in the protection valve are closing at 6 bar.
Losing 5 bar over 10 hours works out a drop of less than 7 psi an hour.
If the pressure drops to nothing then you have a down stream leak from the protection valve if it stabilises at about 5 or 6 bar its the compressor or the air drier unit and thats the way it is.No way does this indicate a fault in the air system
