I dunno if its just me, but my merc has a PATHETIC car horn as its audible warning…it winds me up so much! massive great lorry and a horn that sounds like a 1930 toot. (plus im a bit of a kid and want loud horns! hehe) not only that i think its quite dangerous.
if someone is pulling out infront of me and dont check there mirrors, as it sounds like a car horn, if i blast it, and they think its just a normal car, well! there going to come off a also lot worse then me.
i know personall if i pulled in front of a truck and got a loud airhorn noise it would soon wake me up as to what i was about to pull in front of!
so anyway! i think its time i got myself some airhorns! work have said its fine to put them on the truck (but there not paying) -shakes fist-
anyone know how do it? or is it a garage job?..wouldnt mind a set of twin pullchain stylee ones…or maybe just a single?
anyone got them on there truck? fit them yourself?..there any sort of restrictions to fitting them etc?
I am correct, the horn is not fitted for you to highlight other road users errors.
The other vehicle may be being driven by an elderly person, a new driver or someone who’s confidence behind the wheel is not as high as yours.
The last thing they need is a truck bearing down on them with a bank of air horns blaring, next time you feel the need to behave in this manner consider this, the driver you are directing your anger at could be someone’s mother, father, wife, husband, son, daughter elderly or otherwise.
Thankfully you are in a minority, a dangerous one but a minority all the same. If you do have an issue with other road users pulling out could it be that you are driving to fast and to aggressively.

Not driven a Merc for years but all i can say is a Volvo has 2 type of horns, a girly one and a more manly truck sounding horn. You have checked this out have you cus maybe Mercs are the same
My CF rigid is the same, you blast the horn and it sounds like an effin moped
So I am buying some two tone train horns to wake the idiots up. Another good thing with
loud airhorns is when you see numpty in lane next to you txting on the phone and give them
a blast the phone usually goes flying in the air.
The CF i drive has 2 horns. 1 rubbish poor excuse for a horn and 2 Hadley beasts which sure make a noise They were fitted when the vehicle was built so not sure how easy it is to retro fit airhorns.
We also run an Actros and the horn in that is, like you have said, very poor.

He didn’t say he wanted to highlight other peoples errors He wants a horn to let someone know he is there should they pull out in front of him, which in my book is exactly what a horn is supposed to be used for. He’s highlighting his own presence not the error of the richard head car driver.

i also have a cf in my yard…brand new 11 plate
noddy horn on that one too! =(
your cf with the twin horns, is that a pull chain stylee?
transtex across the road from us have one of them! thats what im talking about!! =p
Yes it is mate.
Our CF85 tractor unit came with an electric air horn (operated with the button on the left stork) fitted. It is pretty loud. Personally i think a large vehicle needs a loud horn.
Some Mercs have a switch for car or air horns - some do not. Don’t know why some don’t! Look for a switch with a picture of a horn on it (strangely ).
If not fitted I assume you would need to run a relay switched by the horn button and a switch so you can disconnect it when not required/legal. This could then switch the supply to the pump for air horns or whatever other system you want to use. The theory is easy, but not sure about doing it in practice. Best see an electrical fitter.
Just remember that the horn is there to warn other road users of your presence and for no other reason.

My old merc had a gay horn honestly it was embarrassing. You know when you get kids on the side of the road gesting at you to fire the horn, i always pretended to look the other way to kid on i didn’t see them.
My daf has a decent horn, was in a iveco stralis on monday and it has a horn that sounds like a train!
