The prices are low - wheneva ya go.

Obviously someone at Asda watches Thomas the Tank Engine.
Obviously someone at Asda is paying the architect too much.
Or hasnt heard of the longer trailers coming to town.(if Asda are trialing them) Or maybe thought, why can
t he reverse in?
Like a new store we deliver to.Really tight on the nearside with aircon ducting, and when you are reversed in,big fatso will have difficulty getting down the side of the wall and trailer.Car entrance beside it however will take three-ish artics side by side!
We used to have to reverse into that store, yet more dumbing down for those unable to do the job.
Pimleco Sainsburys had one of these a few years back. Was usually not working when I used to do it but it was good to see as it was a first for me. I thought the 10m rear steers were to save on the cost of these now??
Could have used a clean lorry and trailer for the video.lol
nothing new , was using that 20yrs ago and I can remember the IOW ferry having the same for spinning ridged’s and cars about and that was 35 40 yrs ago when I was a kid

Yeah you’re right, there was a few older places that had them for turning rigid’s and you could still the rails in a few old stores.
I’ve delivered to that exact store when I was on for Bunzl and it had the turntable then, thought it was really good but went to other stores that had them too.
It’s just a space issue and the fact they got a bollocking off the council for trucks blocking the road during reverse.
It’s a little un-nerving how close you get to the wall with your windscreen and you see things jutting out, your brain just thinks ‘I’m going to hit that’ but obviously you’re not.
I have wondered what they’re going to do with the new longer trailers, I guess they just won’t have them delivering there.■■..■■ But we’ve all heard that before like when double decks would only be used for trunking
In Huddersfield there used to be a couple of places where Trolley buses used a turntable system. I believe it was commonplace for the Railways to use them.
I believe the first Asda to have one of these was Chapeltown store just north of Sheffield. It was an old store, converted cinema I believe, no room to stop or park to summon help from store staff, on the main road, and to get in you had to block the busy main road on the exit from one roundabout on a road in between two roundabouts about 150 yards apart in the centre of town, so holding up traffic on eight main roads when the roundabouts blocked. You then reversed in, unsupervised, between a row of shops and a busy pub. Lots of drunks and pedestrians trying to fling themselves or their spare kids under the truck, great fun but lots of complaints from public and council, a definite no no for a supermarket.
It was also rumoured at the time that regulation was in the pipeline that vehicles were not going to be allowed to reverse in or out of premises, (good ole’ H & S) but there had to be a drive in drive out facility. Asda commendably wanted to keep a step ahead and also stop the complaints and built the turntable, at a cost I was told of 1/2 a million pounds.
As I remember it though, the one at Chapeltown didn’t have the facility to turn a Van with roller shutter doors into a curtainsider with swing doors. Who was operating the turntable, Dynamo the magician?
there’s a house in devizes that has one for their car, only a small area at the front for parking on the main road out of town towards chippenham, seen her drive in off the road get out the car and its turned around as she walks into the house, seemed a good idea saves trying to reverse in or out on to a busy road
Cool, like it.

house near me has one of them between 2 houses.
Also remember delivering to a bank (I think) in London years ago that had one
That store is ~2 miles from me.
It used to have a huge yard / loading bay at the back, until they decided they wanted to expand the store… so they closed it for ~6 months, and basically demolished it and rebuilt it and moved it back and expanded it into the yard and carpark at the back. I guess this was put in so that they could use all available space for the ‘store’.
