is it possible to tailgate in a state of the art modern truck ? does collision warning and automatic emergency braking not throw a hairy canary if you start driving ridiculously close to the vehicle in front
A month or so ago I seen a 16 plate daf into the back of his mate (same company) who in turn had shunted into some cars that had the temerity to slow down to turn off. (it all looked minor damage and I doubt anyone was injured)
but how can that happen now with all the safety electronic stuff ?
If you were in a truck then like dipper Dave said I’d leave it.
If you were in a car however like another post suggests and definitely phone them! Having an off day or not is no excuse for it. Ive had off days, we all have, but don’t mean you can behave like that. Sorry.

As far as I am aware, the system should not brake unless it can give the driver a 1.4 followed by 0.8 second warning. That is what is built into the legislation for AEBS.
Also, the AEBS systems shouldn’t be working below 15kph so maybe a slow speed shunt is possible. I know the MAN system adapts it’s warnings to the type of driving - so city driving means much later warnings giving more tolerance. Apparently the DAF system panics for anything
.
Plus - a 16 plate truck may not have been a newly manufactured truck. As far as I know all trucks built after 01/11/15 have to have AEBS so maybe possible a 16 plate doesn’t have it

So that will be a minimum of 2.2 seconds thinking time for the AEBS (that’s rough 55 metres at 56 mph) that is probably double the time and distance of an average driver!
