Hey everyone!
Just passed my class 2 in october and did my CPC a week ago and now have all my cards ready to go!
The question i have is that i am looking for agency work to do on my days off from work so i am wondering if any one knows good agency’s that take on newbie class 2 drivers in central Scotland?
Any help is most appreciated folks!
Cheers
Nick
Good luck. Agency work gets a lot of stick and in most cases is fully justified, but if you’re after extra work it’s ok if you play them rather than letting them play you.
Think on though, you can’t work full time at one place off card and then work your weekends on card. You have a serious bump and you’ll be in the clart.
Don’t know any agencies in your neck of the woods though.
Agencies have a habit of not paying for what you have worked.
They make money on drivers not checking pay slips then if you notice missing money, you have to keep ringing the pay roll bod who will have all the excuses.
Use a diary to record all the activity.
Even though the job i do is nothing to with driving? I would have thought that i woild be able to get experience by working with an agency on my day off likes!
I can’t leave my job as the pay i have is decent and how can you get anywhere without experience?

Fraid so. You can’t claim ‘rest’ under tacho regs if your working elsewhere, it doesn’t matter if you’re driving or not, if you’re at work then you are working and therefore not resting.
It is possible though, assuming you work Mon-Fri then you could drive for one day at the weekend every other weekend. ROG will probably be along later to explain it better than I just have.
Even though im yet to pass I will be in the same predicament as this guy. I have a full time job which is that secure I could take a dump on the managers desk and still have a job the following morning… but anyway I work there Mon - Fri 12:30pm - 20:30pm so if i passed my licences could I not work a Saturday night? As from finishing friday at 20:30pm if i started on 10pm Saturday night then surely Ive had over 24 hours rest? Seems a bit of a grey area with a lot of mixed views.
I am wanting to get on the Road ASAP. But them job I am in now is 40 hours a week (mon-fri 0730-1530) …and to top it all off I have just been given the Supervisor job, So will be required to be on call Sat and Sun should any issues come up.
My Job pays the Mortgage, 2 cars and other such things. My biggest fear atm it dropping the regular wage and jumping to Agency on the promise of ‘yeah we have some work’
I even had a phone call off an agencie yesterday asking me if I wanted to start on a new 6 month contract tomorrow. I wasn’t able to as I need to give like 2 weeks notice. Obv I doubt I would have ended up staying on the 6 month contract mind.
The guys parting words was “…If I am honest mate, you’re better staying in a Full Time Job then trying to get into this Industry”
Also had a doorstep interview with a local company down on the Dock Road. He said if I had a couple months experience then I would have been shortlisted but because I have nothing, he could do nothing. “get some experience, i’ll keep your cv. Will see if I can get you something sorted in the future”
Used the search bar for Agency, came across this thread. May not be the right one, but hey ho!

It’s not a grey area at-all, any work done in a week in which you drive in-scope of EU regulations counts as other work.
If you work Monday to Friday 12:30 to 20:30 you most likely will not be able to legally drive a full shift every week, in order to drive a shift every week you would need to be able to have 45 consecutive hours rest every weekend, as your total rest from your usual job is 64 hours, that leaves you 19 hours to do a shift, bear in mind that you would need at-least 9 hours off before starting the driving work or after the driving work if you did Sunday nights and you can see it’s not likely to happen.
Whilst it wouldn’t be impossible for you to do a driving shift every weekend, in reality you could only legally do one shift every second week.

Whether or not you could legally do shifts driving in-scope of EU regulations every weekend depends on your usual hours, for most people it’s not legally possible to do more than a shift every second week.

As Rog says, it’s not a grey area at all, and if you do any “in scope” driving during a fixed week, then ALL work done during that week must be recorded. Some people say it’s OK for this record to be in the form of a diary etc, but the Regs require that it be done on the proper charts.
When I started working part-time on the Agency, I was able to drive every week as my regular job was 12 hour shifts 4- on, 4-off.
Wondering If any one can give me some information on the following Agencies i’ve came across today that i’m thinking about contacting.

Assist Recruitment - I did work for these about 6 years ago working in a Factory in Skem. That recycled Asda Waste and cleaned their Vegetable plastic box things. They seemed ok like. Regular work and always let you know about a week a head of schedule what you was working. Might be different for HGV.

I’m gonna give them all a call when I get home , but a bit of info on any will be much appreciated.
