I have a question on driving hours. I currently do van driving for a supermarket and was wondering does that count towards my HGV driving hours meaning I can only do a limited amount of agency work. I’m currently on a 25 hour Contract so does that mean I can only do 31 more hours? Thanks
It only counts towards driver hours if you are using a tacho in it . if no tacho is being used the time spend driving the van counts towards working time but you still have to remember about weekly rest period you must have a full 45 hour rest period every other week when driving a Hgv
Example of what you could do every 2 weeks
day 1 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 2100
day 2 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 2100
day 3 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 4 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 5 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 6 - off
day 7 - off
day 8 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 2100
day 9 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 2100
day 10 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 11 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 12 - Van 5 hours 0600 to 1100 and LGV up to 1900
day 13 - LGV 0400 up to 1900
day 14 - off

I believe the job your currently in does not come under EU regulations so the work will count as other work for the EU regulations and therefore will not count towards your driving hours under EU regulations.
It’s not possible to say how much HGV work you could legally do or when you could legally do it without knowing what hours you currently work, if the 25 hours are spread over 5 days you should be able to do at-least a days HGV driving every second week but depending on your hours you may be able to do a days HGV driving every week, on the other hand if the 25 hours are spread over fewer days you may be able to legally do more days HGV driving.
Sorry to be so vague but without more information any attempt to say what HGV driving you could legally do is nothing more than a wild guess that can be of no real use to you.
Thanks for the answers everyone appreciate it. That’s good it doesn’t count towards my driving time. I guess as long as I follow my laws like daily and weekly rest I should be good.
