Agency driver laugh of the week pt2

Well had he read the op he would have seen that the load was pre loaded by the agency driver and delivered to the full timer. He then specifically targeted agency drivers, quote:

I may be from an older generation but I can’t perceive any reality where I would let an agency driver secure one of my loads

I didn’t realise the loaded trailer was being moved and still can’t see where it says that in the OP. Anyway if thats the case then I would expect the trailer to be strapped down but would still want to make a check of the straps before I took charge as they could have come slack in the trailers travels from point A to B.

I should apologise as well for my use of the word ‘agency’ and no disrespect or targeting was intended. I was an agency driver for 2 years and know full well how agency drivers are sometimes perceived, even though we have to carry around a vast array of knowledge about different vehicles and learn new techiniques and procedures as fast as possible.

As i’m getting back on the road soon I will once again be back with an agency.

Bugger me theres some sensitive folk on here

I think its safe to assume a loaded trailer would be moving at some point. Otherwise it would be what some of us in the industry might call a warehouse

Although the story was well and truly exaggerated I get the gist of what the op is saying, I don’t see the harm in strapping a load for someone else as it all comes back to the driver.
As for agency drivers I think there are a few that trash trucks etc but I can say the same for full timers, just how it is…still, the sun is out and it’s nearly the weekend!

Given that the trailer is loaded at point A by the agency driver and delivered to company driver at point B then you really do not get a say in the matter unless you insist on opening the trailer and fully re strapping it yourself.

I would also question your attitude towards agency drivers, why do company drivers think that they are somehow a cut above all agency drivers when in actual fact I’ve not yet found a company driver that could hold a light to the drivers I work alongside and they are all freelance professional drivers, yes, sometimes agency and sometimes direct for the client. I would love to get some of the [zb] on here who constantly ■■■■■ about agency drivers and invite them to a day where they could pitch their mouths and their abilities against me or the drivers I work with, that would be well worth paying to see.

A lot of you ask why agency drivers cant get full time jobs, well I’ll answer that one right now, it is because they don’t want the full time jobs. They know what companies are paying and basically find full time employment rates of pay an insult to their efforts as the full timers should but hey, they are just grateful to have a job.

There are far to many critics of agency drivers in my opinion and most of those critics couldn’t reverse a Tonka truck let alone an artic.

Good post and I agree 100%. Trouble is for every 1 of us that goes in and does a professional job either to the same standard or in many cases better than their own drivers, there are 99 typical agency muppets that go in and bring the wagon back with panels hanging off along with half of their drops, greasy footprints on the bunk, empty diesel tank and all the biscuits gone (   ).

I agree with Truckbling. When I was on agency the employed drivers in the places I used to go into were useless and it was normally us agency boys that came in to clear up their mess. And as he says agency drivers aren’t on agency because they can’t get a job, I did it for the money and also the freedom to work when I wanted and have time off when I wanted.

Here here.

If there were more full time contracts being offered around, they’d actually be even MORE agency still, because there are still loads of people who won’t sign up to “rotating shifts” and “midweek shift changes” and “crap pay” and “poor conditions” etc etc. that you sidestep by picking and choosing the jobs you do on agency.

Sure, I’m a cap-in-hand eager beaver with 100% flexibility in January-February like everyone else - but there are 12 months in the year rather than two, and one’s built-up holiday pot will cover the lean times if you simply MUST have that big wedge every week…

On the other hand, if agencies were offering out 13 week contracts with exactly the hours you want, they’d have their hands bitten off for them, and a shortage of agency drivers would abound - You’ve only got Catweazel, That middle aged guy who used to be the kid with plaster around his NHS specs, a no-speke English, and a JC+ bod who’s licence is still wet left to fill those vacant shifts…

like it, very good
