Where I am working out of, I heard that the drivers will have to either go Ltd or Opt out
I am looking for full time Mon-Fri work, Family comes 1st, Fed up of the chasing for work thru Agencies
Apart from what I heard, I’ve have not been told anything at all from either the agency or DHL/Debenhams, what I have heard a driver asking if he is being laid off because his name isnt on the rota, but I think its laid off for a week or two until the work picks up again, Debenhams has apparently gone quite.
But !
The week before christmas, we did sub out of Asda from Debenhams hired units (mercs)
So basically, I dont know if I am coming or going, but if a full time job comes up, well I will be outta there so quick, even thou I like the work.
It just beggers belief that agency workers are treated in such a way that we start to feel like second class citizens, it wasnt until yesterday that I found out the guy behind the desk is also agency, been there 12 weeks and being laid off surplus to requirements, I bet that next week someone will be in his place thou
Serves you all right for working for Agencies.
I know it may be hard but if you all told agencies to ‘stick it’ the companies you drive at would have to take on full time and perminant drivers and the greedy b******s that own the agencies and own villas in the Med would fold, then you would have some rights again.

No, they wouldn’t. They’d do what our lot (very sensibly) have been doing for years, and have a list of “holiday relief” drivers who work on a casual basis as and when needed - they’re mostly retired fulltimers who want to keep their hand in, drivers who used to work for our subbies, plus a few people needing work who are friends of existing staff. In fact, it’s virtually impossible to get on full time at our place these days without doing at least 3 months on “holiday relief” first so they can see if you’re any good.

Agreed but as said above, We need work, and cant wait for companies to start taking new drivers, Maybe ‘IF’ drivers stuck together and didn’t work for agencies, then Maybe only then that companies would have to start taking new drivers, I can’t see that ever happening

Same where I work (I am one) We are cheaper (no agency premium) more reliable, know the job and the trucks. Win Win as far as I can see. They do take new drivers on though as the old timers won’t do full time.
