Agencies

Being fairly new to the forum and having returned to driving after a break I am amazed at how many posts are whinging about Agencies and all things connected. I just contacted local transport companies and told them if they needed a driver to cover holidays or extra work or if they were let down that they could call me. Couldnt guarantee I’d always be available but I am an option. I tell them the price per hour and I just invoice them for work carried out. I have three regular firms now that I work for and some now and again.

It benefits me to work a variety, it benefits them as I know I am cheaper than an agency. Transport managers are often very happy to have someone they know and trust to cover emergencies. I have tended to target smaller companies. Its worth a try.

Have thought about building a web site for drivers to advertise themselves on. Dont rely on agencies - do it yourself!!

whoops

Had thought about this myself but I need work every day , what happens the day they call you and your not available , thell call the agency …

Fair play if it works for you though …

Just being nosey so i and others are not diddling ourselves or you out of money, how much are you pimping yourself out for per hour / per day?

What are the agencies demanding from the company to provide a driver?

Remember that what you are doing means that you are self employed so responsible for your own N.I. and income tax.

…and your “client’s”! contributions… :open_mouth: … and your own personal liability insurance…

You can’t make money out of SE unless you charge either a very high hourly rate, or you get a mediocre hourly rate with a lot of booked hours per week, every week without fail. You’d need to claim for everything including the 20p you put in the turnstiles having a ■■■■ as well.

Someone tell me they’re self-employed charging £9ph and they’re living it up like a lord, and I’ll be telling you I’ve just tricked billy bullcrap into exposing himself! :stuck_out_tongue:
