I think you tend to find most drivers dads are [or used to be drivers]and catch the bug thru going with their dad or listening to their dad when they were younger,my dad allways said to me ,whatever you do dont become a lorry driver and when i was 21 he said what do you want for your birthday ,i said lorry lessons ,i dont know anydody who has thought i fancy being a lorry driver who hasnt got a relation driving,how many kids do you see riding round in the school hollidays now. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

I was lorry mad from 5years of age when I was15my dear old mum used to drag me to Lever Brothers at Port Sunlight to try and get me as termed then a job for life she did just that I became a office boy a really good job and then a apprenticeship after 12months left went 2nd man on Alfred Dexter big mistake (I won’t bore you with details) went back to Levers took driving lessons passed test knew some people at 21 got a job on Wirral Wool Birkenhead on a long wheel base 2stroke Commer 12 months later moved on and done long distance for the next 50years I counted my ex jobs 1962 -2012 64jobs some a day some years/week never been out of work finished at 70 years of age done Europe ,fridges ,tippers (new Mersey Tunnel) Tankers rope sheet ,Meat haulage. A young guy now no chance of beating that I don’t know what the answer is about getting jobs these days and don’t forget where ever you live think of all the firms that have gone out of existence young lads these days can’t go with their dad not allowed plus the job does not have the appeal and buzz it used to have to much red tape a really simple concept load -go -tip -come home turned into a total ■■■■■■■■

I never had any relations that were Lorry drivers only an Uncle who was a bus driver. But passed my car test on a Wednesday started driving a transit 35cwt on the Thursday took my HGV at 21 PSV at 23 and the rest is history been at it for 39 years now.
But I will say the job for me is not as enjoyable as it was and I am looking forward to when I retire which is something I thought I would never do.
