They bring back some memories John, spent hours and hours in 'em.Looking at that scrapper photo that gearstick looks longer than usual or else it’s me that’s out of synch That motor has a six-speed box I notice and if she had the AV691 and CAV pump she would have caught racing pigeons.
The second pic is great, looks like it’s got a passenger side wiper, all the dials and switches you needed and no more, very posh engine cover blanket, wonder if he was a Scotsman? I used to have a BOCM cattle food sack over mine - or was it Spillers - things were tight in Sheffield in them days, couldn’t afford owt special for t’wagon :lol. Are they log sheets curled up in the windscreen,if so there’s plenty to go at to get you home…
Hiya Chris that scrap motor was a 6 legger but has a deadman so i would think it was one of that special order for Wimpey
IICR was about 71/72. Oh and thanks to Fryske it was one of his photo,s . i was going to chase him to find out where the photo
was taken.

Nice photo John.Where is that pub,I can’t remember where Duttons brewery was.
Could have been the “Stanfield Arms” though.
Hi Chris
I think its somewhere yorkshire way,one of the villages(like Rawdon) on the outskirts of Leeds, not certain though.Know doubt someone will tell me.
JOHN.
Hiya …thanks for the photo JOHN. i,ve just been onto google …it seems the Stansfield pub is in Apperley bridge…and Duttons ales was
in Bow st Blackburn, they was taken over in the 60s by Whitbead but kept brewing untill 1978… To which i did,nt know as i collected
wet brewers grains from the blackburn /burnley /blackpool/salford and warrington brewery,s in the 70s. the Burnley brewery
you stood in the back of your lorry and pushed a plughole stopper up with a 8ft length of 3x3 and some grains would shower you.
then you went upstairs got you kit off climed into the mash pot and shoveled 15 tons through the plughole onto the lorry. it was
hot work as the grains was still steaming from the brew.AH good old days

Hi Gary ,
have sent you a P.M.
The Stansfield Arms is on Harrogate Road Apperly Bridge Bradford, nice pub great food…Love the AEC pics ,Henry Longs in Bradford ran quite a few,my dad drove a mark v mammoth major with the 9.6 engine and 5 speed box. They put a Dyson drawbar trailer behind it.Top speed was 38 mph,it had a canopy on so what the steering was like god only knows.Often wondered if any of Longs AECs survived into preservation
my friend peter O neal ,or peggy as he was know drove one of henry longs aec and trailer.

hiya,
Like Chris i too have done many happy miles in one of these “old girls” and you can take it from me the gear stick is the the correct length i can recollect being able to finger the gear knob, “yes i did say gear” with my fingers whilst my thumb was still hooked over the steering wheel, not that you needed to change gear much on the open road they pulled like a Trojan.
thanks harry long retired.
yeah i have a picture of it on dvd, loaded in Longs yard, there`s some pictures on this site of a few Longs AECs and a picture of 1 of their Mercs in Dover, looks like Steven Leake driving it
i drove the aec and erf on R Whites drops around mid 70s and yes they did the job if you liked to freeze in winter and melt in summer, yes the red 1 looks nice, but i did drive the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Another nicely restored Mandator.
