Advice

Can anyone tell me the speed limits for trucks in France and Spain, nationals and autoroutes. Also, any other info that you think maybe relevant. Thanks.

Unless signed locally to be lower, the maximum speed limits in km/hour applying to road types are as follows

U – Urban, all purpose roads in built-up areas
G – General, all purpose roads outside built-up areas
D – Dual carriageway and four lane expressway roads
M – Motorways

France

All Freight Vehicles 3.5t — 12t U 50, G 80, D 100, M 110
Rigid Truck >12t U 50, G 80, D 80, M 90
Articulated Truck >12t U 50, G 60, D 80, M 90
Road Train >12t U 50, G 60, D 80, M 90

Dangerous Goods Transport >12t U 50, G 60, D 70*, M 80

  • 60km/hour applies if vehicle is not ABS-equipped.

A minimum speed limit of 80 km/hour applies in the left-hand (overtaking) lane of motorways.

A maximum speed of 80 km/hour is permitted on the Paris Boulevard Périphérique.

In fog, heavy rain or snowfall when visibility is less than 50 metres, the maximum permitted speed is 50 km/hour throughout the road and motorway network.

Spain

Rigid Lorry > 3.5t U 50, G 70, D 80, M 90
Articulated Truck U 50, G 70, D 80, M 90
Road Train U 50, G 70, D 80, M 90

In poor visibility due to fog or rain, the maximum speed on all roads is 50 km/hour.

Whats the difference between a "Autopista"and a Autovia ?

Geoff

Not a lot really,

An ‘Autopista’ is generally a toll motorway (Peaje)
An ‘Autovia’ is generally a toll free motorway
