Advice

Need some advice on the theory test for lgv I want to to my class 2 then class one but will have to do the practical training later in the year due to no funds.
The question really is how long does the theory pass last and can I do mod 2 and 4 on the cpc or will that have to be closer to the time

Theory tests have a life of 2 years (including Mod 2 cpc). You do not need a theory cert for CE (class 1) but you need to pass your practical CAT C driving test within the 2 years.

Hope this helps, Pete

You have 2 years from passing the first part of the theory test to take and pass the practical driving test.

You can do mods 2 and 4 at any time, you don’t have to wait until you’re ready to do the practical driving test.

Thank you for your help can I also do the mod 4 cpc or will that have to be done closer to the time

You have to do mod 2 before mod 4 but apart from that you can do them at any time you like.

In a previous post tachograph:

Thanks for the advice do you know how much each section costs roughly

mod 1a multiple choice test £26
mod 1b hazard perception test £11
mod 2 CPC Case studies £23
mod 3 practical driving test £115 (£141 at weekends/bank holidays)
mod 4 CPC practical demonstation £55

You will probably need to go to a training school for mod 3 and mod 4, but mod 1 and mod 2 are easy enough to study for at home.

The Official DVSA Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles Book 2015 edition and The Official DVSA Guide to Hazard Perception DVD ROM that I used for my mod 1 and mod 2 only cost about £21 in total. It took me 4 weeks to learn the multiple choice questions, and 5 hours to learn the hazard perception clips on the DVD. I easily passed both tests, using no other practice material.

This is the official DVSA book for the Part 1a Multiple Choice test. It has 15 chapters of multiple choice questions and answers. I spent 4 weeks studying this and scored 98/100. You need 85/100 to pass.
I went straight on to do the Part 2 CPC Case Studies test, and scored 45/50. You need 40/50 to pass. So it’s possible to pass this test with just this theory book as I didn’t read any other book.

Official price £15.99 (about £9 on Ebay)

This is the official DVSA DVD for the Part 1b Hazard Perception test. I spent 5 hours practising the 63 Hazard Perception practise clips that are included on this DVD and scored 85/100. You need 67/100 to pass. Use the review button on the DVD practise clips to find out where the scoring windows are located. Also remember that you are allowed 10 clicks per clip, so controlled multiple clicks at the right time will often boost your score. Also, watch youtube videos for help with technique. I only scored 56/100 before I worked out a suitable technique to score high marks.

Don’t buy from the official website, because all books/DVDs etc. are available cheaper on ebay, amazon, etc. To find the books/DVDs easily, just enter the ISBN when searching online.
