If you ask a driver his eta don’t knock an hour off when you tell the customer,
don’t make up stories of why a driver is late, not without telling the driver,
remember the TM is a lying barsteward
don’t put your phone on silent
last out of the office turns the lights off
and to win the drivers over, for the first week when you hand them their run sheet give them a ■■■■■, they may remember your kind gesture when they phone up to give you grief
Grumpy Dad:
you hand them their run sheet give them a ■■■■■,
Burt custard or jam ■■? that is the question !!!
That’s a whole different level, and if he chooses the wrong filling, could ignite the favouritism among drivers divide, which would make his life hell, best opt for plain and hope for the best.
robroy:
ASK a driver to do something with a please and thank you instead of telling him.
This is the same guy who said I was wrong to be ■■■■■■ off when I was TOLD to do something I wasn’t really supposed to be doing rather than ASKED so you might want to wait until tomorrow to get his other opinion as well…

I’ll have a Greggs caramel custard
Make or break on tomorrow afternoon when the box of donuts is on the side.

This is the same guy who evidently takes the pet when you don’t agree with everything he says, so should not ask opinions on a forum.
So you might want to wait until his next post…but don’t disagree with it ffs.
Don’t plan 2x 13 and 3x15hr days you’ll soon find the jobs take longer… have some consideration on the last shifts job as to where the driver will have to park up. And if all you give are postcode and reff numbers expect at some point a phone call asking where in the field is the loading bay! Asking a driver to phone back when there closer to the destination normally gets a call back when my wheels have gone around once…stick at it.

Guy who can’t tell a rant from “asking for opinions”. No wonder he went out of business
Mate, you’re a guy who works for an agency ffs, your opinion on anything I may or may not have done in the past is irrelavent.
Have a go at something yourself first before you start commenting on stuff others with more initiative have done in the distant past.
You’ve really got issues if you get so ■■■■■■ at something as mundane as a comment (that you asked for in the first place ) on a forum .
Grow up and stop making yourself look a ■■■■.
If they stop unexpectedly because they are tired and need 20 mins, or need a ■■■■ don’t be getting on the phone asking why have you stopped you only had a break an hour ago etc etc
If a driver tells you they can’t get a truck into a delivery then listen to them rather than give them the whole well other drivers do it. Situation might be different from the last time another driver was there.
If a driver tells you they can’t make somewhere as they are running out of time then don’t say we’ll just try and push them.
Try and not dictate to a driver where they have to park overnight. If you can then leave it up to them to choose.
Don’t ask drivers to put the tacho on break while they a tipping/loading and to skip strapping things properly just to save a few minutes so your plan can come together.
If a driver is going a long way round compared to what google gives you as the shorter distance route unless it seems absolutely ridiculous then don’t be getting on the phone shouting at them like they are stupid. Chances are they are going that way to get round a low bridge, or a less suitable road. Remember a fully loaded truck is more efficient with the cruise control on at 50mph rather than stop starting at junctions, roundabouts, twisty roads etc to save a few miles.
m.a.n rules:
ditch the tight trousers and pointy shoes, and show respect to your elder’s and more experienced.
if the respect isn’t reciprocated have a word with your gaffer… hth
Some good advice there. I moved into the office around 18 months ago after 32 years on the road. I now know who the old hands are, who the ■■■■ takers are and who the totally useless nobs are.
A decent wagon driver, you should be able to give him the job and not expect to hear from him until he wants another one, the job will have been done, he knows what he’s doing. Don’t keep hassling him. The P takers will seem at first like the decent ones until you know different.
As for the other ones, the ones that are on the phone if the sat nav doesn’t take them to the front door well they have to learn somehow but as has been said, a spot of politeness and asking rather than telling goes a long way

One things for sure 3 jobs and only in your 20s that a good start youll be used to moving on after a few years by the time you get any experience.
