ok, what would you do? I work for morrisons abbatoir in east Lancashire. been here for 11 yrs almost. now, theres a very real chance of being made redundant. I could ask for a transfer to work out of either wakefield or gadbrook, both around 1 hr each way travelling which would take it’s toll eventually & may not even be an opportunity there for me. I am also giving thought to a possible move to latimer park. my gf is from Bexhill but lives in lancs so would be happy to move too. again, may not be anything there for me? alternatively, leave the company altogether but then chances are in order to work for a decent firm and earn decent money I’d have to tramp all week. not afraid of hard work but the thought of a new start after so long is a tad daunting. if no transfers are open to me then I’d have to start afresh. that’s out of my hands. if they are what would you do? also, if I have to leave, are there any decent tramping jobs within an hour colne, lancs? thankyou for reading. Roy.
Only you can answer that I’m afraid. An hour commute is a bit much, unless tramping, especially if you’ll be maxed out on hours. Would it be possible to kip in the truck if at base? Would you be prepared to do that? 11 years redundancy would be a nice little payout, and would more than pay for relocation, if that’s indeed what you want to do.
It’s all down to personal circumstances really. How much, if any, pay cut you would have to take for moving depots, what’s the co. like to work for, do you want to move to bexhill? There’s much to ponder!
Good luck in whatever you decide.
thanks for taking the time to reply mate. latimer park is near kettering. we’d be around halfway between Bexhill & colne. I’m on decent money at the moment esp for my area. don’t want to commute tbh but would fill a gap till I found something better. moving to latimer park I’d just be renting a room out for now. me & gf have been through all possible scenarios too. like you say, lots to ponder. thanks again, roy.
Hi mate.
Have you tried EFS in Burnley? They do tramping work and are looking for more drivers.

No probs, if you are wanting to move to bexhill, it might be worth researching companies in the area and getting some CVs sent in. What’s the worst that could happen?
Obviously whatever happens don’t bugger off till you’ve got your redundancy agreed, plenty of work outside.
Latimer Park, if you get the chance would be a good bet, surrounding area not bad at all for housing and reasonable cost, not cheap, just reasonable.
You’re in a good area for other work too, being midlands there’s far more chance of day work and lots of RDC’s, i know blokes who are perma agency and have no intention of changing earning well and having never dreamed of a night out.
It’s always a bit daunting when a good job you’ve been on for a long time comes to an end, you tend to panic and grab at the first thing offered, but when one door closes another always opens, i’m now doing the least hours of all my lorry life for the best pay, if it happens go out and knock on doors and you’ll find something good again.
no @claret john. not tried efs. may well do but got a few irons int fire so to speak. have been in touch with a lad at Shipley transport. see what happens there. thanks though mate
got my eye on jobs with Shipley transport, reed boardall & b & m stores. all tramping jobs. anyone with any recent experience working with these firms? thanks in advance.
ok. i’m being made redundant by the end of sept. any decent jobs out there guys? thankyou, roy.
