Advice on Epilepsy needed

Any one know the law concerning fits etc
or when you need to have medication revalutated
Also would you tell doctors if you had had a monor seizure

not me but female car driver

If her GP hasn’t contacted the DVLA regarding the fit then my advice if she don’t have another one would to be to keep her mouth shut until she gets the results of the scans and stuff to see if it’s gonna be a regular thing then I would do it

Tell them! Cover your/their arse, if something happends between now and then, and you ain’t said nowt…

INSURANCE WILL BE VOID!!!

And it’ll get messy.

Epilepsy has to be notified to the DVLA , and your licence will be taken of you.

Once fully diagnosed, (it has to be by a Hospital Consultant), you will be on medication for life. You then have to completely seizure free for a full 12 months before you can apply to get your licence back.

Insurance after you get it back will not be a problem as provided the DVLA are aware of your fitness to drive they will be happy

Good luck

Why Oh Why do people ask these questions as if they are going to get a

‘Don’t worry you can carry on driving if you only drive at ten miles per hour’

kind of answer…

Put yourself in the shoes of an innocent bystander when that female car driver has another fit behind the wheel…

Enough Said !!

xxxxxxxxxxxxx2 If she has an accident and kills a coulpe of kids being shipped to school along with their mother …

Depends on why she has had a fit & what the diagnosis is

So please let not jump to conclusions here have been there if you want to look up in the health & family room under my user nam you might just find a few things out

Yep I have had fits but still have full Cat C licence no restrictions on etc not epileptic so might not be even that but best advice is not to drive untill she has spoken with a Dr & been checked

I had a ‘minor’ seizure that involved me losing my job and my licence all in one go, I managed to break my shoulder in 2 places and then bite my half my tongue off!

I would strongly advise her to give her licence up, its a hell of a lot easier to get it back that way, after 12 months, as long as there has been no seizures just go to the doctors and get a note, its a simple as that, there will usually be the tests, such as a cat scan, MRSA scan, but these are nothing. The DVLA will just reissue the licence but on a 3 year restricted licence, nothing more than 3.5 tonne, but its better than nothing. Anything else you want to know, just ask…

I have only one thing to add to the above advice. If she ever has a fit while in the bath, throw some dirty washing in beside her.

I hope this helps.

i suffered from epilepsy since childhood had a suspected seizure in 2003 had licence revoked for 1 year went to apply for hgv licence got told i have to be free from seizures and 10 years free of medication for seizures before i can hold a hgv licence i am currently fighting this as its been confirmed as not a seizure my advice would be to tell dvla and prepare for the worst get as much info from doctors and hospital get yourself armed with as much evidence as possible we have asked questions to the dvla which they cannot answer and we have asked again and if they dont reply with answers it will be goin to court

good luck you may need it

I said that once and a bloke tapped me on the shoulder and said “that’s not funny, my daughter had a fit in the bath”, I said “i’m sorry, did she drown?” and he replied “no she choked on a sock!!!”

I`m in the process of getting my class 1 back after 5 years off and 5 years free from another fit (episode) and any medication.

I have the cover note while my application is being dealt with which my bosses insurance company won`t accept…

Got first big sale in Paris start of Feb and boss getting a bit twitchy as to wether i will get full lgv back or he has to find another pilot.

Nitemare…and everthing crossed…

best thing to do is call DVLA & be a little economical with the truth it does work as I did & within 3 days licence back full

I’m facing five years of not being able to earn a living and am begining to regret playing it by the book.

Can you give a bit more detail on how you were economical with the truth?
I had a seizure while cycling and someone called the paramedics so the system took over and swiped my licence before I could say ‘Hang on a sec?!’ and now I have the mother of all fights on my hands to get it back.
If I had had a major seizure I could accept it but I never had most of the symptoms of a fit and don’t believe there is a significant chance of a repeat but the statistics say I am more of a menace than the smokers and pie monsters.

you wont win against the dvla i have tried got all sorts of specialists and mp andenough evidence to prove them otherwise yet the dvla medical specilaist says otherwise if they see the word siezure your ■■■■■■ i have another year and a half to wait before i can reapply as for being ecomonical with the truth i cant see how as the hospital has all the evidence to show a seizure or at least a suspected seizure

i would aslo advise looking at the forum4e website epilepsy action
