Advice on becoming class 1

Afternoon bin a lurker on here for a while now.
After some general career or life advice lol. I’ve been wanting to become a class 1 driver for a long time know since my teens really. since then I’ve had 2 kids a house and a partner to support I’m currently earning 18000 as a maintenance man. I’ve been offered another job in Burford quarry on concrete pressing for 25k a year but I’ve got my theory tests booked and everything I was hoping to book my course on Pete’s open day. I suppose the question is should I move jobs for the sake of a few months ? because regardless I want to be driving a lorry. obviously, I could pay the course off quicker but I don’t want to get stuck in another rut as my current job is giving the motivation to crack on and get my licence.

I can’t get any decent credit cards/loans. Due to being the sole breadwinner. ( btw I live in Oxford which is a very expensive place to live.)
I’m at a very confusing place in my life at the minute never really done much when I left school went straight into work I’m looking for a career where I can earn decent money take the kids on holiday once a year and live comfortably. And I can’t afford to take a pay cut and do an apprentice trade.

Sorry for the rambling on its just something that’s been playing on my mind for a while now.

Thanks for any responses or helpful tips or someone bin in a similar place.

Get your Class 2 & get some experience. see how it goes. An awful lot of money to fork out if you dont take to it.

Even get some work driving vans with an agency just now to get a feel for the transport industry. Then you will know.

Good Luck.

Okay if you want the most cost effective way become a bus driver do this for 6month or a year license will be free.
Now get your class 2 you will pass straight away just remember all the ■■■■■■■■ checks class 1 reverse will be hard af part from that your good to go

Take the £25k quarry job, BUT only allow yourself the same money as you’re on at the moment - Put any extra aside into a savings account. Within a few months you’ll have saved enough to pay for your HGV licence with no need to get into debt to pay for it.

Take the better paying job. Even if you jack it after three months to go truck driving you’ll have earned nearly two grand more after tax in that time and that will go a long way towards the cost of your course.

I know that Stagecoach is two years now.
