Hi all, i have one question. Can someone please give me a advice for the current average salaries in Uk for european work driver Hgv class1?Whats the normal gross salary per day and per month?Only need only advice for a normal wage for employee not self employed.
How much is the normal rate for overnight paying per day?Is the money for overnight tax free?
Its pretty much the same as uk work, night out money varies between £20 - £25 a night, and take home is £450 to £600 depending on the company, and if your lucky, if your not, then you will be east european, take home 500 euro a month, and be away for weeks on end, the advantage is, easier parking, if you park by 4pm, the chance of an illegal immigrant for company, and being robbed or gassed in your cab, my advice is, dont stop, just keep going, regardless of whether loaded or empty, and if stopped, make sure its close to a pub/bar.
Can be a good craic, weekended in a nice place, by the sea, and getting paid for it, if you have an offer, then take it. I prefer it across the water, but some prefer uk work, and not having to chase ferries all the time ( or trains ) Gendarmes in France can be a problem, as can the Bag in Germany, but if you keep it legal, theres normally not any problem.
I got an offer from a company. But I’m sure that it’s a bad deal. That’s why I wanted to ask here as a precaution because I wasn’t sure.
According to your information I read here, it is really a bad offer. thanks…
If you tell us the offer you’ll be told pretty quick of its good or not, no need to name the company

The Company told my a gross pay of 70 Pounds a day (included weekend) for staying outside minimum 4 - 6 weeks. After 3 months it will go up to 85 Pounds a day gross pay. No other money for overnight. And thats all gross pay,not take home.
I think it´s really bad.
Jesus christ, that is a bad wage, even for uk work, unless its for 8 hrs a day, but here in the south, the average is £120 a day, and a great deal more for weekend work, average £15 an hour, and some offer more. There are drivers that would take that sum, and enjoy the job, which is what its all about, but in all honesty, i have seen worse, but maybe they employ east europeans, and of course by law, they are not allowed to advertise that fact, the job market is open to everyone. If you have a home to run, a family to keep, dont take it, if you were eastern, then its a great deal more than you would get at home, and living in a truck is not a problem.

You got some companies that pay a day rate of say £70.00 and also pay £40 in tax free subsistence allowances (£10 meal allowance & £30 night out) but they don’t pay the day rate if you are on a weekly rest, But still pay the £40 tax free money on those days,
So it’s swings and roundabouts,
With some companies if there is not work for you all they pay you is the basic daily rate each day(if you turn into the yard) and that company that i worked for, would expect drivers to go out on the road and do a double manned shift sometimes after they had been in the yard all day if a job came in at around 4-5pm , So in effect they would be in work for 24 hrs for £70?
if they refused to do it, they would be last in line to be given work
The amount of companies who are only paying for 6 shifts each week has become more common place over the past 5yrs, thanks to the cheap imported labour that’s available
But IMO the day rate should be at least £100 per day gross, + £30 night out allowance and maybe even £5 or £10 per day for meals then if they only paid you for 6 shifts every week and didn’t keep you out over 2 weeks(so no 45hrs weekly rest out on the road) it would be bareable
So maybe minimum 600 Pounds gross a week plus overnight pay will be realistic for beginning?
That’s the minimum the job should be paying IMO , but even jobs paying around that are thin on the ground, are rarely advertised , £100 per day could be £10 per hr or more if all you count as working is driving time,
but you could be doing 13 or 15 days longer if double manned a 13hr day would work out @ £7.69 per hr gross for a 15hr day it would be £6.66
ok thanks for your advice

How very dare they, not supply a fridge or extra lights
It depends on the work.
Monday to friday doing Belgium and back, you’ll probably be looking at taking home a minimum of £500 per week.
Tramping for 2-6 weeks, Then you’ll average £600-£700 take home.
Some pay a really low basic plus plenty of tax free extras, So don’t always look at the basic and say No, You have to look at the bigger picture.
But i’m sure there’s also plenty to stay well away from.
Wages have stayed stagnant for the past 10 or 12 years in this job as a result of opening up the job market to low paid countries.
