Advice for a newbie?

Hi all.

Im Just looking any advice any of you can offer a trainee?

I plan on taking my C then C+E over the summer possibly with adr & HIAB. I already have my counterbalance and telescopic forks but wishing to drive rigs as work is slow. I have 5+ years experience loading and tipping trucks on the concert circuit in Belfast and Dublin and whilst i would ideally like to end up working for the likes of fly by nite, est trans am etc. I know i may have to truck anything to get experienced. Id rather do long runs than multidrop tbh.

Is there much work out there?
Is it a case of heading Englandward to get work?
will my experience/licenses help me out any?

I can work like a horse too but would rather not be worked like a horse

Many thanks for reading.

Unless you know somebody willing to take on a new driver you will probably have to do agency work however even agencies are now stipulating a minimum of 2 years experience for big clients such as Stobarts etc. I was lucky and basically fell in to a well paid full time driving job that I wasnt even looking for (long story) but that was probably only because I already knew the owner of the company. I was trusted with a brand new DAF XF 105 460 1 week after passing my test. I done the job for 18 months and never even caught a step or scratched a mirror. New drivers can sometimes be good drivers!
Good luck!
