Hi Eagle_uk3,
I can’t comment on whether Advantage do or don’t have contracts with Esso and BP.
However, I can tell you that I currently teach ADR for several providers as a freelance instructor and none of them charge anywhere near £1,000 for a course.
As a rough rule of thumb, an ADR licence for packages and tankers with all UN Classes (except explosives and radioactives) but including 21 hours DCPC should be costing around £600 - £650ish, although it can be cheaper depending on whereabouts in the country you are.
Hi Dave
That is very interesting to know, they said they will call me later in the week and I will let them know they are overcharging.
I was trying to put my point across that they offer (not guarantee or promise) that there will be no problem getting a job after the training. When it comes down to it they are blooming USELESS.
One good thing I can say is that I went for an assessment drive before I signed with advantage and they told me I would pay ££££ for a class 1 course but when I contacted Advantage they were around £200 less than the original assessment people. I mean that would have won me over anyway, but then they offer jobs as well so that was the closer of the deal for me.
Hi mate,
You could always ask Advantage about who is actually the ADR provider, because I don’t see Advantage listed in the current list of ADR providers. Not exactly transparent eh??
Then there’s the small matter of what the ADR awarding body (SQA) calls “Franchising and Sub-contracted Marketing.”
Unfortunately for Advantage, “Franchising and Sub-contracted Marketing” is forbidden by the SQA manual of practice (M.O.P.), so they’d have to make clear who the provider actually is.
This little snippet from our ‘bible’ might be helpful in obtaining some transparency for you from Advantage:
5.3 Prohibition of Franchising and Sub-contracted Marketing
Courses must be delivered by the organisation holding the approval, and under that organisation’s management and control. It is not permissible for an approved training provider to franchise or delegate, for payment or otherwise, approval to run courses. Any provider not complying with this requirement will be regarded as having breached the conditions of the Approval Notice.
Any company or organisation that does not hold approval to conduct training courses under the terms of this scheme may advertise training courses to be conducted on their premises ONLY if the advert makes clear the training provider who holds the necessary approval who will be conducting the training on their behalf.
In all fairness to Advantage, they might not presently be aware of this prohibition, but they and possibly any ADR provider they might use might be in breach of it regardless.
My advcie to anybody wishing to book an ADR course is that they deal directly with a properly licenced ADR provider.
If you need any assistance with knowing who is correctly licenced in your area, then please give me a clue as to your approx location and the distance that you’d be prepared to travel to a course, then I’ll give you some contact details.
I hope I’ve saved you some money.
