alright cheers
Because you got to justify 500 quid when your feeding the people bollox.
If your doing tanks ask your man about loading, discharge and washout,
Bet I know the reply.
Come on Rog justify it!Sure you will be able tooooooo!

You will not learn anything about loading, discharging or cleaning on your ADR
with ADR you HAVE TO PASS THE CORE MODULE !!! if you fail that then nothing else counts …from memory I did mine in the military and it took a week ,but you have to do and pass first aid ,and firefighting ,not sure about civvy streey but in the forces they light fires and we had to choose the correct extinguisher and put the fire out .Again if you keep it up to date ,ie refresher every four years ,you just had to redo the modules ie tankers, packages or whatever it is you have .if you let it run out ,then you have to redo the core module …Thogh things may have changed as I just let mine run out

I can’t speak for ROG, but I do remember that you and I have had this conversation before.
It’s all down to market forces in exactly the same way as it is in the world of commercial vehicle servicing/repairs.

I done my ADR back in May, and you no longer have to fight a real fire. This was how GTG done the firefighting part: They have an old discharged fire extinguisher and have a laser pointer scellotaped onto the hose. They have a video of a fire playing on the screen and you have to point the laser at the ‘fire’ and pretend to put it out. All because it was deemed to be bad for the environment to be lighting fires constantly.
Also there is no first aid course as such now either. But you have be able to put someone into the recovery position.

Hi damoq,
That’s correct mate, the rule change came from SQA and so it’s now the way of it.

Hi norb,
I’m not sure how the military do it, but for civvies, the core module needs to be refreshed just like any other ADR module.
For civvies, the ADR core module is what the validity of the ADR licence is based upon.
For instance, a guy does Core, Packs and Class 2 and works for Calor Gas delivering gas cylinders for three years, but then gets made redundant…
He is then offered a job driving petrol tankers… so he goes back to an ADR provider and does Class 3 and Tanks as additional entitlements. The new entitlements get added to what he’s already got… then the system spits out a new ADR card for him which is then valid for packages and tanks + Classes 2 and 3. The expiry date would remain the same as his present card though, ie he has two years left.
His alternative is that he could take a whole new course for whatever he wants/needs and so effectively re-set the whole thing to 5 years from that date.
SQA’s rules say that the expiry date of an ADR card depends on the date of the core module.
Done my first Cpc module today and ■■■■ me it was a long day, really not looking forward to 3 days in a row of this ■■■■, I hope its worth it.
Do drivers with ADR make much more money than ones without?
Jay, you may find the ADR course more interesting than the DCPC module(s),largely depends on the instructor.
Also, depending on which ADR modules you are taking you may be eligible to claim upto 21 hours towards your DCPC - thus killing two birds with one stone, for little or no extra charge. Also depends on which training provider you go to for ADR.
As for the money from driving ADR, it may be a little better per hour at some firms but not a massive amount of difference. Some specialist job roles i.e. tanker driving may involve better pay rates.
The ADR course can count towards your DCPC too - The very 1st one I did back in 89 (Hazpak/Hazchem) was a lot more hands on than it is now (fought real fires & played with real chemicals) LOL
What I cant figure is how Hydrogen, ammonia, cyanide etc changes its chemical properties every 5 years.
When I first took my ADR 30 years ago I was told it ■■■■■ hurt if you got it in your body.
Been the same for 14 billion years( for all the astro physists these molecules didnt exist till a billion years after the big bang) so why do I have to pay to be “informed” of their chemical properties when I know more about their quantum shells, their chemical properties, their ways of killing me and people around me than some “tutor” who reels this garbage out day after day.Why should this plant pot get 100 quid+ per day for spouting crap that he really knows bugger all about.Prey tell.
Well its about legislation blady blady bloody blah!!!
Finished the three days training just have to do the test sometime next week. Found it a bit repetitive and I think two days should be enough but still thought it was worthwhile and learned a lot of valuable information.

That seems an odd way to do it - would it not be fresher in your mind if you did the test the day after the training?

I thought that myself but it looks like its a different crowd that does the testing and end of next week I’m told is the closest test day.
And speaking of odd Over here in Ireland ADR does not count towards dcpc which is completely stupid in my view since not only do you learn about dangerous goods but theirs also some first aid training which I think every professional driver should have instead of in the Cpc learning the inner workings of a ■■■■■■■ retarder.
