Hi t29sab,
If you wish to drive petrol tankers, you’ll need at least:
ADR core module
ADR UN Class 3 module
ADR tanks module
Another consideration is that doing just those three modules will put a serious dent in a week’s work because of how they are normally timetabled.
Most ADR providers have the core module from a Monday morning until lunchtime on the Tuesday.
UN Class 3 is usually taught (for 1.5hrs) on a Wednesday morning.
Then you’ll need to budget all of the Thursday and Friday to do the exams for the above, plus being taught the tanker module followed by the tanker exam.
Some ADR providers offer just what you need, but I’d say it’s quite rare unless you already are working the fuel job and the firm requests the ADR provider to provide a bespoke ADR course.
Best thing to do is try and get on for a smaller firm doing petrol tankers or gas oil deliveries and then you’ll have a better shot getting on for one of the big boys as you’ll have some experience. Temp Staff were advertising for petrol tanker drivers on the agency at Kingsbury a couple of weeks ago but it stated you needed previous experience of petrol tank work, do a bit on the agency in there, and keep your nose clean and you may get your feet under the table direct.
Some of the shift patterns are minging though, the texaco lads i think or esso are on 4 day shift on, 4 off then 4 night shift on, 4 off and repeat, ■■■■ that.
Wonder which idiot thought that shift pattern up, “I know, who’s driving the most dangerous gear, let’s give them a shift pattern that’s going to mess their internal body clocks up the most.”
You possibly mite not earn anymore doing just packages for a general haulage firm, just a thought.

I wish it was that lol compared to what we do have try this ;
12 hour shift [ days 5am start ] 10.45 [ nights 5pm start ] 3 week rotation
Mon Tues wed [ days ] then Fri Sat Sun Mon [ nights ] then Thurs Fri Sat Sun [ days ] then Tues Wed Thurs [ nights ] weekend off and back round again.
Esso is the worst shift pattern of all the contracts actually working 20 shifts per year more than any of the other Majors.
You will also find that companies are no longer taking on drivers to the core fleet, but setting up ’ white fleets ’ using agency.
I’m sure the money’s good like, I just couldn’t do the alternating days & nights, i’d have it in a field or in to a bridge no problem. Don’t know why they make you do it, there’s them that want to do nights perm and them that want to do days perm with the nights attracting a higher salary, simples.

That is a tough is shift pattern.
The Shell shift pattern is as follows.
Days :- 5am start, 11hrs 15 mins max
Mon Tues Sat Sun. Week 1
Wed Thurs Fri. Week 2
Nights:- 5pm start, 10hrs max
Mon to Fri. Week 3
Then repeat
The shift lenghts vary everyday to the max hours above.
Job and finnish.
