ADR v DCPC

The primary reason for asking the original question is relating to agency and those drivers who are self-employed, such as myself. The cost of each DCPC module say 80 quid and the loss of a day’s work and those drivers are probably looking £200 or more per one day’s training; x 5 days training and those guys (and girls) are out of pocket to the tune of a grand or more (donations gratefully received), with no hope of recovering the costs so, the need to gain as many brownie points in as short a time-scale as possible is extremely important; if only from a financial point of view.

If you do a dcpc course on your day off and do not get paid for doing it then no work time has been lost

Correct me if I am wrong but taking a DCPC course on your day off could cause a few problems with your Hours as sitting any DCPC course counts as “other work”

Only if you’re being paid to attend

This ^^^

It is worth noting that some trainers and training schools are better than others,
We have 2 local to me,
1 I dont believe a word that ever comes from them, the second I have had good experiances and learnt alot from.

A couple of classic examples from the 1st trainer/training school, and this is in writing on their headed paper.
‘You must carry your DCPC card from September 2014’ - He said if it is issued before that date you do not have to carry it :unamused:
‘From September 2014 it will be law to wear a hi-viz vest whilst on duty’ - Yes, apparently it will be law to wear your hi viz at all times :unamused:

Seriously, Be careful who you choose.

Driver CPC is a necessary evil and moaning about it will solve nothing.

Do ADR if you want as it’s probably the most useful one.

Then add driver hours (because knowing is better than thinking)

Then add the first aid element (because one day either at work or home you’ll need it)

Problem solved

IMHO, that’s a great idea and for the very best of reasons TT; but B1 GGK also has a very fair point, which I’ve quoted from just above:

I’ve been very fortunate the my DCPC was paid for by my previous company.

I’ve heard stories of money paid and no hours and all sorts of other things.

So yes as with anything in life before spending your hard earned ensure you’re happy with the firm
