ADR training

Sorry if this has been asked loads of times before.

When doing the training for the ADR ticket, i’ve been told that some of the course includes CPC modules?
I refreshed my CPC in January of this year, so any modules included in the ADR would be a waste of time. Is there a way i can get the course completed quicker, and cheaper by leaving these bits out?

Potentially able to do the course in south wales, or west midlands.

In short, no you can’t.

The ADR Course training modules all also count as dcpc training, only test day doesn’t. There are no parts which only count for dcpc which could be dropped.
If you do tanks and packages plus all the normal ADR classes (ie not explosives and not radioactives), you’ll have completed 4 days of your dcpc training requirement.
If you’ve already completed all of your dcpc training requirements, well done, now you’re going to do some extra training.

If the course is taught by a centre without JAUPT approval for their ADR course, it won’t count as dcpc training at all.
There is absolutely no difference in the time it takes or what you’ll be taught, it just won’t count.
(I think JAUPT is the organisation responsible for approving centres, trainers and courses as suitable for dcpc).

You can’t miss any of the ADR training - as has already been said.

You can ask them not to upload the hours for DCPC and knock the cost (usually £10 for each 7 hours) off the final bill. The DCPC bit isn’t compulsory.

When you say you have refreshed your DCPC already this year what do you mean? Have you now got a card valid for more than 5 years?

Thanks for taking the time to reply

I was hoping to cut the course short as having to take time off work to do it, but i’ll have to just see whats available and book a few days off.

What is the current expiry date on your DQC

Yeah mate, i sat in a classroom for 5 days back in January to do my CPC again. I originally completed it at the start of 2010 and havn’t been in a position to do one module per year since then, so had to do it in one hit.

I’m not trying to cut corners with training, just being tight and trying to save a few quid!

That being the case you can get dcpc hours to count from Feb 2015

If you got 21 dcpc hours from the ADR course and 14 hours from doing something else then you would get a new DQC expiry dated Feb 2025

Really? Wow! That makes it all good and not a waste of any time or money! Thanks for your input

DCPC hours will only count if within 5 years of the current DQC expiry date so if you do get a DQC dated Feb 2025 then no more hours will count until March 2020

Hi Baldylux,

Theoretically, the answer to your question is YES.

The normal SQA ADR ‘day’ is 6hrs of tuition (not counting any breaks/lunchtime)
The normal JAUPT DCPC ‘day’ is 7hrs of tuition (not counting any breaks/lunchtime)

As has already been said, a provider must be separately approved for both if ADR and DCPC are to be offered.
It is NOT automatic that attendance on an ADR course will gain you a 7hr credit towards DCPC.

However, in the real world, almost all ADR providers offer DCPC as well as ADR, which means that you’d be attending for 7hrs anyway.

It is perfectly possible that a driver needs to take an ADR course (normally either 21 or 28 DCPC hrs) but doesn’t need all of the available DCPC credits.

For example, driver X needs to get ADR qualified because he’s taking a new job.
Driver X already has 21 DCPC hrs credited to his DCPC account at DVLA.
Driver X books an ADR course that offers 21 DCPC hrs.

In this case, driver X tells the training provider that he already has 21hrs and so only needs another 14hrs to complete his 35.

As mentioned above, it’s no problem.
