Hi all
I’ve have got my ADR test next week (Packages not tanker) and am looking for any advice on what the questions cover
I’ve recieved some light reading from Scanny77 (thanks again) but would like to know where to concentrate my reading on
i.e do I need to know all the gasses off by heart in order and what they cover
thanks a lot

hgvsteve,
done my adr a month ago this is what to exspect:
25 questions on core
10 questions on gas
10 on flammable liquids
10 on flammable substances
10 on oxidising substances, organic peroxides
10 ontoxic and infectious substances
10 on corrosive substances
10 on miscellaneous substances
so really you must learn everything, ok mate good luck
You don’t really need to know anything about individual substances - it is more about the hazards of the stuff within the classification, any exceptions should be covered in the course !!!

so do I need to concentrate on who to deal with the substance when somthing goes wrong, and is it multiple choice
I did the full ADR about five and a half years ago. The hardest part was staying awake for the classes after heavy lunches, with ale at the Trafford Park Hotel. I seem to recall it was multiple choice, and like the CPC I sat in 1980 it was not very difficult. The guy who took both courses for me all but gave us the right answers beforehand, but even without this valuable help you canusually discount two of the answers straight away.
I’m not being dismissive when I say they were easy. If I’d had to study on my own it would have been very difficult. Largely because the subject is dry and for the most part uninspiring. Doing it in a classroom with others certainly helps.
I packed in my tanker driving job after a week and never really used the ADR in anger again. It lapsed at the end of last year. I had to pay the owner of the tanker firm the £300 back when I left so soon but I’d never make a (small mulkti compartmental)tanker driver as long as I have a hole in my back-side.
Besides I couldnae stand the smell of the diesel and gas oil.

Yeah it is all multiple choice - and a couple of the answers are normally really silly so can be ruled out. The only one that we found hard (and most of the people on the course agreed) was corrosives…
… still passed it, although not THAT interested in carrying anything that can melt flesh !!!

I agree with those sentiments entirely. The financial rewards are negligible when one thinks of the responsibility involved. This nation gets dangerous goods moved about - safely - on the cheap.

I can only say how the system works here in germany, where you take part in acourse which covers all the aspects of the type of licence you wish to have weither it be TANKS-- or PACKAGES; COVERING load security due to
terrorist problem, action to take in a chemical incident, paper work required for the transport ,PPE equipement make up, you will be taught the different klasse of chemicals , with KL1 AND KL7 not normaly part of the exam,
AS for cheating it ddoes occur but not as often ,DUE to the Examining office
putting now and again some one in one or maybe of the courses being held and so therefore catching the Schools who do cheat, and then they lose their
licence to teach so its not so prevelant now adays,
American version was about 70 questions. Not too difficult if you pay attention to what the question is asking. Post 9/11 we now have to have a background check.
Any felonies within 5 years and your hazmat endorsement is automatically revoked. We have 4 drivers so far who have had to leave the company because they can’t get their hazmats renewed ,even after appeal.

It,s not a test as such, its teaching fish to swim round in circles or dogs to bark.
Failures should be scrubbed internally with a wire brush
25 q’s in 40 mins - core
15q/25min - packages
15q/25min - class2
10q/15min each - classes 3,4,5,6,8 & 9
but then again, what do I know…only did mine this week
Jules
thanks for all your advice, espically wheel nut, juts completed all my tests and now I have to wait for up to six weeks for the results.
s
should get the results (licence) in 2 weeks, they seem to be on the ball with ADR tickets at the mo…could be something to do with the forthcoming legislation (got min through on sat - passed all
)
