Adr study books

If I get taken on from the agency the company will put me through my adr as I deliver chemicals to various places and whilst the huge majority of the time im under the limit there is the very odd occasion I would go over so rather than doing two runs or someone else doing the extra it pays to train me up for adr.

Question is are their any books I can get and read for self study in the mean time whilst there is limited work
many thanks

To be honest, don’t try and study anything before the course, you’ll end up going completely over the top! Just pay attention on the course - everything you’ll need to know will be in there (and you’ll get a course hand book too).

Hi cooper1203,

khdgsa has given you a great answer already.

Now for my 2p worth…

Said with great respect… the problem with trying to do pre-study is that if you misunderstood something (easily done!) you’d have to un-learn and then re-learn to get it right in the end.

:bulb: If you went through that process, you’d only look back and possibly regret doing the pre-learning.

The other possible issue with pre-learning for an ADR course is that you aren’t currently in a position to evaluate anything that might consider buying. I mean this in terms of whether it is accurate, too much or too little depth, and whether it’s relevant and up-to-date.

My honest opinion is that you wait until the course, which probably won’t be for a while yet, then use the study book that the course provider MUST give you.

There’s an app you can download, good for revision for exam at the end.

I did it a couple of years ago and if I’d tried to pre study, it would have melted my brain. Much easier just to be taught and bounce off the other people there.

It also depends whether they are putting you through the entire usual course or just a subset depending what they carry.

Just listen, take some notes if you want and it’ll all fall into place, even if it feels worse than your driving test at times.

The best way to do the ADR packages or tankers is on a residential course where the provider locates your accommodation for the week but with b&b’s / guest houses and hotels shut , this won’t work unless you plan to commute daily to the venue .

The final exam is multiple choice , as Diesel Dave said don’t study beforehand as the course contents can change .
A good ADR course depends on the tutor and the drivers attending to make it a good laugh , you always get the ex Morrisons driver who did a one hit to Baghdad in a day cab while shot at by Al Queida or the Talliban / ISIS .

Expect to see the video from the 1970’s of motorway pile up with ERF’ s and corrosive tankers leaking .
Some training providers offer a discount on the course depending how far away you live , if you’re based in Southwest , check out Friendberry ltd .
Most firms may only pay £1 per hour more for having ADR ,plus you are more likely to be stopped by the commercial vehicle unit of the traffic police and DVSA road side enforcement once your orange plates are marked up .
They will check the contents of all your kit such as having a torch that works , PPE and so on , and load security for strapping with ratchet straps .

I found this one altrainadr.co.uk/ESW/Files/ADR_questions.pdf
Dunno if good /useful or not

I’ve had a look at the link you provided.

:arrow_right: There is a clear caveat by the author at the end of the document.

The document looks to be dated 2014, so unless it’s been revised (which nobody knows) I’ll add some facts for folks to consider…

The two ADR books of Regs were completely revised and republished in 2015, 2017, 2019 and will be again revised in readiness for 2021.

The ADR course teaching syllabus and the providers’ Manual of Practice were revised and altered (IIRC) in 2016 and again in 2019.

The online ADR exam questions are reviewed periodically and without notice, so whenever SQA choose to do so.

Having said the above, I’d say that the questions in the linked document are a fair representation of the required depth of learning that’s needed to pass the ADR exams.

I’d just add that EVERY question in the ADR exams is in multiple choice format which contains four choices to pick from, one of which MUST be the correct answer.

You’d have to be a complete dufus to fail and ADR training course.
Turn up, pay attention, make notes and answer multiple choice questions
