Ok. So I just passed my cat C. Taking C&E once I’ve got my poxy CPC done. Then, I’m aiming to go for ADR. Bearing in mind I live in Northern Ireland, I’m looking for advice on which one to take. Packages or tanker. I’d take security over salary and I hear tanking you get a bit more respect. God knows we truckers need that!
Which leads me into my next question. Here in NI there is a real shortage of HGV drivers. So WHY are we still being f*#cked over by the industry and paid an insulting wage? I’d be really interested to hear from any other Norn Iron drivers on this matter. Viva la revolution !
Most places that employ ADR tanker drivers want an experienced driver from the various posts I have seen on this
ADR lasts 5 years and so does periodic dcpc so once you have done your initial dcpc then why not go for a full 5 days of ADR including tanks and get 21 hours of periodic dcpc
I guess what saying is, money for my training is very limited and I just want to make the right choice for me and my family. Maybe then considering my lack of experience I should think about FLT or HiAb etc? What you think Rog?
tanker work always used to be well paid but you must always remember it is a big responsibility and if you go on general haulage it is often you who must decide what product goes in next not some young routing clerk and do you deliver a load of flammable solvents to a firm who has a defective earthing system all pressure on the driver and the guy on the solvents farm always says your mate did it last week he said the rules have changed now mate you can smoke here to as long as they are low tar its a great job but they dont pay you for nothing i did a total of 16 years on shell chemicals and ici

Find out what is needed in your area then train for that
