Hi guys just got my ADR license through the post and the things got the wrong bloody name on it! I did point this out to the bloke running the course before it even finished and he said not to worry it all goes off your driving license! What a load of white that was as my license now says James instead of Jamie which is my actually name.
To get to the point does this matter too much am I unable to use it? I’m going to ring then tomorrow but I doubt SQA will be open and it’s a pain cos my boss wants to send me out on Tuesday to pick up some 3000 litre.

Hi jamiep1988,
I’m afraid that the red part isn’t quite right mate, and some of the rest of what you wrote doesn’t seem to make sense unless I’ve misunderstood it.
How was it that you were able to “point this out to the bloke running the course before it even finished” ?
I have to ask you…
Did you fill in a form that needed to have your photo put on it?
Did you have to write a “candidate number” (beginning with a “5”) on your exams?
If the answers to the above are “yes,” then you should contact the ADR provider and explain what’s happened.
Not all providers run ADR courses that frequently, and they might not have updated the instructor, so mistakes can happen quite easily, but surely you wrote your name correctly on the first form you filled in and on each of your exam papers?
Meanwhile, you should be able to use your ADR card since the mistakes on it are only ‘administrative’ but only if you gave correct info on the two forms you filled in at the start of the course.
Sorry mate, but I’m struggling to understand exactly what’s gone wrong with the issuing of your ADR card, but having said that, the ADR provider should be able to sort this out for you without too much of a drama.
I filled out all the forms correctly with Jamie on them.
I pointed it out to the mistake with my name to the bloke when he gave me my certificate for my 21 hours of cpc.
The provider is a company that my work use for all our drivers and they do run ADR courses regularly. The instructor is a DGSA and ex traffic copper.
Should I contact SQA or the people I did my course with?

Thanks for the extra info Jamie.
You didn’t mention in your OP that it was a DCPC certificate that you meant.
The name on a paper DCPC certificate isn’t really that important, because they’re not really worth anything anyway.
It is correct that it all goes on your driving licence number when it’s to do with DCPC and your eventual DQC card.
Can I take it that your ADR card has come through and is correct though?
If you have an ADR card valid for the UN Class(es) for what you’re carrying in packages/tanks, then you’re good to go with a ‘regulated’ load, regardless of what mis-spelling of your name is on a paper DCPC certificate.
If there’s anything that you’re not quite happy with, you should contact the provider.
No sorry Dave should’ve put that my card has come through with James on it too which I don’t really know how.
It’s got all the right info on it except for my forename. I’ve got all the classes bar 1 & 7 which is correct.
Would that be something I take up with SQA or the course provider?

No problem Jamie, we always get there in the end.
I’m assuming you put your name correctly on the two ADR forms you filled in at the start of the course?
This sounds to me like a simple administrative error on the part of the provider when they entered your candidate details into the SQA system.
My guess at the reason for the mistake is that many people (correctly) called “James” sometimes write the name they are known by such as “Jamie” or even “Jim” on forms, so I think the provider has corrected what they thought was a simple mistake on your part.
At this point I’m guessing that you’ve never had an ADR licence before?
If not, then the mistake is understandable in that you didn’t previously exist in the SQA system.
If you had existed previously, then the provider would have seen a drop-down box offered with correct name on it for them to click instead of typing the whole lot of your details.
It’s an easy mistake, and is easily corrected.
When you contact the provider, you can politely point out that you wrote your name correctly on the ADR forms and ask them to contact SQA to deal with it. It does need to be done, because your name isn’t “James.”
There’s normally a fee for a replacement ADR card to be issued, but I don’t think you’ll have to pay it in these circumstances because the mistake isn’t yours.
As I said earlier, the name on a paper DCPC certificate really doesn’t matter.
Once you’ve got your 35hrs in, you’ll be issued with a DQC card (from DVLA) which will have your correct name on it from your driver record.
Not bad service on a Bank Holiday eh?
Yeah I filled the forms out correctly. I hate being called James and always correct people. So for me to put James just wouldn’t have happened lol.
I’ll get in contact with the Course provider on Tuesday then.
Cheers for your help Dave!! Cracking service for a bank holiday!!

No problem Jamie (see, I got your name right!! )
Yes mate, now we know all the info… the provider owes you the correction and for free.
