adr question

a friend of mine is doing his cat c test on Wednesday morning and if he gets through he wants to do his adr and hiab, because there is a lot of call for both around our area. I told him that until he has his 2 years in, it will be an uphill struggle. so he wants to try to stand out. fair play I say

I said that I really don’t know anything about the adr apart from it is split into different modules. I know that Coates in Leicester do the courses but I don’t think there is anywhere else.

I guess Dave is the guy to ask. which modules are the most important to do? roughly what should it cost? is the course all on computer or does it cover practical as well? how can you tell if its a kosher course (I mentioned that a certain broker does a course that’s not approved by the sqa)

its the same with the hiab, Coates are the only place I could think that do the course. how much should that be roughly?

I think the hiab course has accredited by ittsar. maybe if it is rtitb accredited that would be ok?

I really couldn’t help him much, apart from hgv all I have done in the way of courses is a few days on reach and cb stacker trucks. but I know you guys will put me straight

Try contacting Data Academy- they offer all these courses in the same area.

John

I just read my post and I don’t think I worded it very well.

what modules of the adr are the most in demand/useful?

who should it be accredited by?

ballpark, what should it cost?

any recommendations for training providers?

same question for hiab.

sorry about the ramble, night shift is playing havoc with the grey matter

thanks john  I just spotted the website and the guy who runs it is a member on here so I will be recommending.

Both DATA ACADEMY (Rick) who runs the ADR course and Dieseldave (Dave) who delivers the ADR course at DATA are both members of this site

Hi jbaz73,

I’d say that your friend needs to do Core, Packages and seven UN Classes.
I’d advise against him taking the optional tanker module as this will save him money.

Whichever provider you choose must provide everything your friend needs for the course, so there’s no need to worry about anything on that score. I’m afraid that there’s no online option, because the ADR drivers’ qualification can only be obtained by ‘attendance’ at an approved centre AND passing several multiple choice exams.
I’d also advise against online research because you’d not know which ADR topics to read, or at what depth.
Another reason is that you’d usually have no way of knowing how accurate or up-to-date the info is.

Of the names I’ve seen mentioned so far, I can tell you that J. Coates and Data Academy are both on the SQA approved list of ADR providers.

As for the price to pay, I’ve no idea of the going rate in the Leicester area, but please ask about VAT and exam fees, because some providers don’t explain as clearly as others.

:bulb: Some providers have registered their ADR course for periodic DCPC hours, either as one lump, or as separate chunks of 7hrs, so it’s possible to get 7, 14 or 21 periodic DCPC from attending ADR course I’ve recommended above.
