ADR Question Maize Digest Slurry

A friend of mine called me earlier, asking me if I could find out if Maize Digest Slurry came under ADR regs, as apparently it produces both methane and oxygen even when it’s being transported?
Apparently there is a limit to how many miles you can transport it as it’s also expanding in the tank.

It should state in the instructions in writing that are provided for each ADR load! If you require an actual answer then I am sure an experienced hand will be able to offer a better answer failing that there will more than likely be an answer on Google!! Haha

That’s the problem there are no instructions in writing and my mate was just curious whether it should be ADR or not.

its up to the consignor to inform the haulier and the haulier to inform the driver,if so it is the responsibility of the consignor to give the driver the conditions in writing before loading begins so that you can wear the relavent protection. if this isnt done i can only read that it is not carried under adr regs,if it is a reputable company then ask them if not ask your boss about it and your concerns

It may require an ADR if it is produced from food waste but if the slurry is from an AD plant that uses maize and other crops as its feed stock then it is just the same as any farm animal muck

All the gas will be “spent” from the digestate out of the AD as its this gas that is used to run the MEGA engines to make the electric from rotting food waste/slurry/maize/grass etc :exclamation: :exclamation:
There is VERY little smell (no gas) from AD digestate and is top class stuff to spread on
farm land.

Hi muckles,

IMHO it won’t need to be considered for ADR because it is not packaged under pressure for transport.

I couldn’t argue with that, but I’d say that it means that there needs to be due allowance made for the fact that it expands so that the carriage operation can be done safely.
