There is a lot in there or wait till DeiselDave comes along as he is the Oracle on this but it will depend on where you live

Double D should be along shortly to enlighten and inform.

All I would say is try and get your ADR course counted towards Driver CPC.

Kill 2 birds with one stone…

Over to you Dave

I looked at doing the ADR course and it was 5 days and £610 to cover everything EXCLUDING explosives and nuclear. Also counted toward my CPC.

Hi Chris

I have sent you a pm

hope you find it helpfull

But did that mean if you had done that course, you still couldnt carry explosives or nuclear or could you carry them simply because you have an ADR cert??

Hi Chris

You are correct in your assumtion that you would not be allowed to carry explosives or radioactive, this is a sweeping statement as there are limited amounts that you can carry without an ADR certificate but dave is your man for that.

There are 9 classes of ADR plus tanks, many providers do not offer classes (1 explosives & 7 Radioactives) reason being 2 fold a lot of trainers are not qualified for those classas (diesel dave is) and the uptake is minimal as the job opportunities in these feilds are rare and some areas like Leicester non existant.

Hope this helps Rick

Explosives ( class 1 ) is a separate course although only a day after the rest same as radioactive ( class 7 )

As Rick has said it is more specialised depends where you live as if it would be worth taking

The way I got it was you could carry anything EXCLUDING nuclear and explosives. It was two more modules if you wanting these as well.

Hi … i really want to do my ADR so i can eventualy drive tankers,

Hi Chris,
An ADR licence can be valid for carrying the dangerous goods in packages and/or tankers.

Sniffmydiff:
how does it work what do i need to do

What you need to do will depend on what you wish your ADR licence to entitle you to carry.

Everybody wishing to hold an ADR licence must study and pass the ADR core module. ( = ADR general knowledge.)
Next, you choose whether you wish to study the ADR packages module and/or the ADR tanker module. ( = one or both.)
Next, you choose which UN Classes of dangerous goods you wish to carry. There are nine UN Classes as follows:

The UN Classification system (9 Classes.)

Class 1 Explosive substances and articles

Class 2 Gases
2.1 Flammable gases
2.2 Non Flammable, Non-toxic gases
2.3 Toxic gases

Class 3 Flammable liquids

Class 4 Other flammables
Class 4.1 Flammable solids, self-reactive substances and solid desensitized explosives
Class 4.2 Substances liable to spontaneous combustion
Class 4.3 Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases

Class 5 Oxidisers and Organic peroxides
Class 5.1 Oxidizing substances
Class 5.2 Organic peroxides

Class 6 Toxic and Infectious
Class 6.1 Toxic substances
Class 6.2 Infectious substances

Class 7 Radioactive materials

Class 8 Corrosive substances

Class 9 Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles

Here are the relevant danger warning signs for the 9 classes:

Sniffmydiff:
and more importantly how much does it all cost?

That will depend on several factors…
The number of ADR providers in your area. (Competition.)
Some ADR providers are more expensive than others.
The cost will depend on which ADR modules you choose.
Another choice that you have is whether you wish to have study hours counted towards your 35hr DCPC training requirement.

Sniffmydiff:
also if i do it can i carry ANY haz stuff or is it just what i have trained in?

I’m afraid that you can only carry the UN Classes for which you have studied and then passed the relevant exams.

I have a list of authorised ADR training providers, so if you’d like some contact details, please give me a clue as to your location and how far you’d be prepared to travel each day to attend a course.

If you leave out Classes 1 and 7, and go for Core, Packs, Tanks and Classes 2,3,4,5,6,8 &9, I’d roughly guesstimate that you wouldn’t need to be paying any more than £550 - £600 without DCPC.

:bulb: Please don’t forget that the ‘packages’ and ‘tanker’ modules are separate to each other and that the Core module is mandatory.

I hope this helps.

Dave your above post is very informative as usual. I wonder if you got any response from that “Training Company” recently who offered ADR but didn’t seem to have all the relevant facts to hand

Wow thanks Dave that answered all my questions! Im in Bradford West Yorkshire and it would be great if you could post trainers around here,
Once again many thanks:D

Yep, Dave certainly knows his ADR stuff, always remember that time me and Lee G met him where he was doing a course and he gave us a brief run down on it :sunglasses:
Oh and he was eating a kebab when he arrived

You sure it was a kebab & not a Pie

Hi dave, once ADR is taken how often does it last?
