Hi guys i’m wondering if anyone can offer any advice?
I passed my class 1 nearly 2 years ago and since passing
I’ve been from job to job as i can’t find the right job for me.
Some of the smaller family run companys i find are no good for
New drivers as they try to blag you either with low pay or just want you to drive all week non stop cuz they don’t care.
I am now thinking of taking my ADR so i can drive fuel tankers hopefully but the problem is i have a criminal record so does anyone know if it’s worth me doing ADR as i have been told by a friend that company’s like shell bp won’t want me is this true. C
Because if it is i wont waste my money.
Like i’m not a career criminal just made a few bad decisions but i’m a family man now
And just want to get on in life.
My advice would be to ring around a few of the Firms doing the job such as, Wincanton DHL, Norberts and Hoyer and ask them if your criminal record is enough to stop you getting start.
Then you will have a better idea whether it is worth you doing your ADR.
Good luck.

Firstly, is your criminal record “spent” as far as the rehabilitation of offenders act is concerned? If it is then you need to find out if a driving job involving ADR is exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act. Certain jobs are exempt - like working with vulnerable people for example. Exempted jobs will require that you declare your criminal record - even if it’s “spent”. Jobs that aren’t exempt - won’t, providing your record is “spent” of course, and in those cases you are under no obligation to mention your criminal past.
