Hi all,
I’m going to get my ADR licence soon (all classes except RAD/EXP)
I do NOT want tanks
I’ve called all the local trainers, but they all only offer the
COMMON CHARACTERISTICS style exam
average quoted price £510-525 inc VAT+ MARKING FEES
I found 1 co. that can offer ADR+class4
av. quoted price £60 for class4 (half day course on a saturday)
Can anyone help I’m based nr. Reading Berks

Hi eurodad, The ADR course you need is called “Core, Packages and 7 classes.”

My first reaction to that is that it seems a bit expensive.
If the providers aren’t doing a mark-up on the exam fees, the common characteristics exam route will add £100 to your course costs.
Doing the same qualification by the other exam route would add an EXTRA £80 to the exam fees.
Having said that, you haven’t given your location, so I’ve no idea whether I can help you.
You can PM me if you’d prefer not to say publicly.
I’m fairly sure that I can probably help, but I’ve got one arm tied behind my back without your location.

I have a feeling that you might be getting your ADR classes and you airport security levels a bit mixed-up mate.
If you were to only do an ADR and class4, you couldn’t possibly take the common characteristics exams.
Could you please clarify what types of ADR substances you would wish to be qualified for?
BTW, I have no connection with the airport security stuff, so I wouldn’t want to comment on that for fear of giving you duff info.
I hope this helps.

Hi eurodad, to help with booking your days off…
The course will most probably run from first thing on a Monday morning until close of play on a Wednesday.
You’ll also probably have to attend on the Thursday from first thing until about lunchtime in order to sit the exams.
Please be aware that some providers have timetabled their exams for a friday from approx 10:30 until close of play.
Then again, there are some providers who are prepared to split the four days so that they take place on consecutive weekends.
This is authorised by the exam body (SQA) but not all providers offer it.
It might pay you to ask that question too, before making a final decision on which provider you use.
My tip is that you check your hours/days of attendance at the time that you make the initial enquiry, and then ask for that info in writing if you decide to confirm your booking.
I hope this helps.
