Adding Entitlements to current CPC

Hi guys,

New to the forum, and new to trucking as well.

I was previously a PSV driver, and accordingly have a full CPC with PSV entitlement on my CPC card.

I have recently passed my C+E test, and was wondering how I go about getting the HGV entitlements on my CPC? I have checked the periodic training website, and it still only shows Bus on there.

Do I need to do further training to add the HGV entitlements onto my current CPC? I did the Case Studies test, but the training school I went to told me that I didn’t need to do the Mod4 Exam.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve looked everywhere, and at a bit of a loss. Hopefully someone has some knowledge?

Thanks,

Jamie.

You still need to do Mod 4. They are different categories. Can you see a truck symbol on the back of you cpc card

Unfortunately it is treated separately, although you can get the dates aligned if qualified for both.

The answer kind of depends on what your situation is. Do you have an acquired rights C1 (7.5 tonne) or did you already have C on your licence at some point (and when was it acquired)? If you did have truck categories before did you ever have a CPC card with truck?

If you have never held a truck category before then yes mod 4 practical demonstration is what you need in any case.

Thanks for your help guys. I did think that I would need to do Mod 4, despite the training company saying otherwise.

Prior to passing my CE, I had no lorry entitlements (C1 etc).

Best get that booked so I can get on the road

Which training company said you did not need Mod 4 in your situation

After completing Mod 4 what expiry date will he get, 2027 or whatever is on his current card?

From what I remember it will be current date for PCV and 2027 for LGV then after completing 35 hours periodic both align at 2032 when the next DQC is issued

Not 100% on this so perhaps best to ask a current trainer like PSTT the forum sponsor

Just my bit…
I thought you could choose the modules which covered both PSV and HGV. i.e First Aid and then your CPC will cover both categories

Cheers

Driving Talent, Leicester.

I was told as I already had a CPC that I wouldn’t need to do the Mod 4 exam. They knew that mine was PSV only at the time.

I’ve done a Load Security CPC module for my PSV. I was the only Bus Driver in the room, and the other 13 people were all Class 1 Drivers. I don’t think what modules you do matter, it’s just the time in the classroom that counts.

Learnt about Roping and Sheeting that day. Helped me massively on my days of driving coaches

I managed to get a last minute Mod 4 cancellation test today. The DVSA examiner said exactly what you put there regarding expiry dates.

(I got 100% on the exam as well! )

I have both CPC bus and LGV, they are both different categories. When you get your LGV entitlement they will send you a new card with both listed and the dates that each expire. Pain in the ■■■ really as both are equally as irelevant as each other.

Do you mean you took the mod 4 test today and passed with 100%

If yes was it with Driving Talent or another provider

Hi, i can maybe give you a little advice as ive been in the same boat.
I had my pcv then did my class 2 and class 1.
When you do your module 4 you will get a new cpc card. Lorry will have 5 years and your pcv expiry will stay the same as it is currently.

Any cpc courses you have done prior to passing your hgv wont count towards your hgv cpc. They will only count towards your pcv…

So basically after you had your hgv entitlement any cpc course you do will cover you for both.

What is the expiry date for your PCV on your DQC

I got a last minute booking for the Mod 4 test with Apex in Peterborough today.

Scored 100% on the test.

I did a little research and it SEEMS as though you were given the wrong info by the recruitment manager
They now have a newly appointed training manager who does know all the driver cpc dqc rules

I live within a mile of this training school which can be a pain when they are taking a trainee out for the first time through the chicanes on Bennion road
