Ad-blue run out?

Having carried out some carefully conducted scientific research on the subject of Ad-blue running low I am happy to confirm that your truck will in fact operate normally with plain old H2O in the tank! Oh and urine too…

it defo works with pee, its just another con to make £££ off the truckers, i am suprised cars aint been fitted with the cash machines yet?

Of course it will happily work without Adblue, even the CPU will tell you its running low or is empty but still continue running. Albeit on reduced power.
As with adding urine, water, fresh air, and any other substitute itll run, but will probably destroy the CAT (or the lining of it) in the long run. I wouldnt want to be the one who has to pay for the replacement CAT either, or the boss whos discovered that 1 of their employees as ruined the CAT by not filling the Adblue tank with anything other than Adblue, as I understand that replacement CATs are around £2k+ each :open_mouth:
So as long as the truck owner provides a supply of Adblue for their truck, at no cost to me. I`m quite happy to keep filling up the tank. As its just another 5 mins of paid work for me while I fill the tank

I thought the nox sensor is able to tell the difference between water and ad-blu?

The vehicle may seem to run OK on water but there is some belief that using water can cause damage.

Not so sure about the injector as Adblue creates oxygen, nitrogen and water in the catalyst, that is how it keeps the emissions down, if the injector cannot stand water, it is the engineering that is wrong imo.

With AdBlue theft becoming an ever increasing problem you can protect your AdBlue solution with the in-built ‘locking eyes’.

I’ve filled the tank with water before and it’s been ok

so, if this takes a couple of years to knacker up the cat, lets say £70 per week on ad blu, average 48 weeks per year, that equates to £6720 in ad blu or £2000 for a replacement cat?

on that evidence, sod the ad blu, ■■■■ in the tank instead :sunglasses:

just put sidepipes, or a stack on, then you bypass the lot.

What and just put contraband in the empty ad-blue tank ?

how much ■■■■ we talkin here because on some nights i can ■■■■ like a horse

If the dealer finds out thay charge you to flush the system (merc around 360 + davids cut) and its a prohibition if vosa catch you. i know people (Wink wink) who play safe and run 50-50 IF your gonna run it neat better of with de ionised water to stop it furing up system .its 80% deionised water any way

Almost 3 years later and this question has still not been answered :open_mouth:

VOSA are dipping adblue tanks to check the quality/strength of the mixture, so if you are running just water then maybe the time to nip up the old ■■■■ and get your excuses right, if there is one

Do you have details of this?

There are lots of misleading stories on the internet, the best debate must be this one;

A British bus company is using urea to clean up emissions and pig pee could be used to source the substance. Stagecoach South has fitted a bus in Winchester with a device that mixes a urea and water spray with other exhaust fumes to dramatically reduce pollution.

Does that mean that all the Muslim bus drivers are never going to get to sample their 72 virgins?

from the site above…

“Despite the 50kg the system adds in weight, and £1,500 is adds to the Q7’s sticker price, the engine now returns 31.7mpg, up 0.7mpg over the existing 3.0-litre TDI, while CO2 falls from 239g/km to 234g/km.”

Wow thats makes all the difference.
