Ackworth steam rally this weekend past this morning looks like a good turn out weather looks ok for weekend
keep meaning to go only live 5mins away never managed it yet shame really always looks like good day out looking at the old stuff.
My lad is taking me. I hope he looks after me a bit better than the last time he took me out for the day (NRM at Shildon), I fell and smashed my shoulder.

I have never made it to Ackworth either, usually down at Ducklington this weekend in past years. I’m told that it is a decent ‘do’ and some of my clubmates exhibit there.
Pete.
Im going tmrw afternoon, its only 10mins from my house
A bit disappointing, only 3/4 full size steam engines, a few HGV’s, lot’s of DB tractors, cars, and tatt stalls.

Agree with you mate, especially the tatt stall bit,it was worth a fiver to get in ,just
I thought there was a lack of HGV’s old and new, plenty of classic cars and tractors. £4 for a cheeseburger, £2 for a styrene tray of chips and £1.60 for a cuppa tea took the p!ss.
I picked up some nice vintage stuff from the Tatt stalls but that’s about it. Probably miss it next year.

It isn’t ‘taking the ■■■■’ but I know exactly what you mean! We normally exhibit at various vintage shows through the summer and it is surprising the cost that some of the food stalls etc get charged. At Newark Showground it used to be £1000 to have a burger van etc for the weekend, at Lincoln a stall can cost £300 for two days so they have to pass the cost on to the customers. It is also surprising how far some travel, we were at Chipping Steam Fair several years ago near Clitheroe and the missus fancied an ice cream. There were several vans from the same company there, I got talking to the salesgirl and she told me that they had all come up from Benfleet, Essex, for the weekend as they got awarded the contract. You would think that there would be local firms cheaper? There was also a chopper doing flights, he had come from Romney Marsh!

oh I understand that aspect of it but to the regular Joe who just wants a burger, a few chips and a pot of tea £7.60 is taking the P1SS as the regular Joe doesn’t give a monkeys how much a stall costs etc.
At the end of the day if all the burger vans refused to attend they’d be forced into lowering the stall prices.
a large part of the reason roadside snack vans are on the wane ( good thing with some of them )the councils cottoned on to the idea and jacked the ground rents up to an uneconomic level . they didn’t want them and it was a quick way to rid them .
