Achtung, Karneval!

Word up to anybody heading for Germany next week:

Due to Karneval there will be “unbridled hilarity” in several areas of the Fatherland on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th.
On Monday (Rosenmontag) a GWA (General Wackiness Alert) will be in place for the areas around Köln, Düsseldorf and Mainz.
In southern Germany (Bayern and Baden Württemberg), they prefer to “have it large” on Tuesday (Faschingsdienstag).

This will result in a lot of businesses shutting up shop for the day while everyone trolls off to a gaily coloured street procession, gets wasted on beer and schnapps before fornicating in the gutter and waking up next morning upside down in a skip covered in their own vomit.

However: Am Aschermittwoch ist alles vorbei. (It’s all over on Ash Wednesday)

Thanks Inselaffe a good informative post, its cus you guys who are on the coalface can keep us up to date

Glad to be of help, mate.
It’s hard to give you a definitive list of all the Karneval Krazy areas, as it varies from town to town, or even village to village.
But if you do turf up somewhere on Monday or Tuesday and nobody appears to be at home, then Karneval will be the reason.

I was in Koln thursday and I was the only person dressed as a normal person…who ever said the Germans don’t have a sense of humour is well off the mark!!!
the whole region were in fancy dress… a bit of light relief in these troubled times
