Accident Sickness Policies

My employer does not pay for sickness.

I have only been in the industry for around a year and do not know wether this is the norm for haulage etc.

I am wondering if anyone can recommend a Accident and Sickness policy they may have running which actually pays and income if off sick.

I understand that some policies have a deferred time (such as will not pay until you have been off sick for 4 weeks) I am looking for the shortest possible time.

If anyone has such a policy either post it or PM me so we are not advertising on here I would really appreciate it

Thanks in advance

Your employer has to pay Statutory Sick Pay however you’re not entitled to it for the first few days of sickness and its a paltry £94 a week.

6 months full pay, 6 months half pay at my place, as long as you haven’t had too many sick occasions in a rolling 12 months.

I believe after 3 days the SSP is £18 per day…not worth a toss!

This is why i am looking for alternatives

SSP (Statutory Sick Pay) is payable after 4 consecutive days sick to a total of £94 and a few pence, not alot but thats your entitlement I think your employer has no choice on that
Google Which for Sick Insurance info

I was off about 2 years ago for 6 weeks all.i got was about £75 a week. Ssp is about 92 a week. But You then have to pay tax on it.

Lad where I work he’s a good lad works hard no troubles.
Earlier this year trying to be clever (doing something he shouldt of been in the yard)he literally squashed his foot rushed to hospital he’s foot/ankle had turned purple his boot had be cut off was a right mess
After 2 weeks he was back in work. Hospital signed him off for 6 weeks for starters.
But he ignored them came back said can’t live on 75 a week got mortgage n bills to pay.
And he’s moaning his foot hurts struggling at times to walk.
When you think you work hard all.your life pay into the system get nothing back.
Somone who’s never worked and on the dole gets more than 75 a week and help with rent council tax etc.
Makes you wonder why you bother at times

I have one with Trent services it costs me £15 a month it doesn’t cover me for the first 30 days but then it pays me £1600 every month so with my statutory sick pay I get £2000 a month I’ve just used it no issues it covers me for 12 months

Yeah I’d like to know to and is there any vacancies

Most likely loads of agency vacancies, covering the bods milking the sick pay :bulb:

I didn’t get sick pay at my last full time employer, as it was “discretionary” which essentially meant that if the manager got on with you, - you got it, no matter how much you might be taking the ■■■■■ and you didn’t get it - if you didn’t know the manager socially at very least. NOT a good system, wide-open to “Moral Hazard” then.

To expand on OP’s question - are there any employers that offer any kind of “full pay” sickness for Newly taken-on staff after a probationary period of say, two years?

I can’t say that I know of any - but I stand to be corrected of course.
Mind you, - where are the full-time jobs that don’t involve some kind of “Temp-to-perm” on agency these days?

My company pay sick pay.
For how long, depends on how long you’ve been there.

The engineering company I went to 2 years ago gave you it from the start but then again the hourly rate was dire and they knew it and although they would like to have paid more were unable to so they compensated for it in other ways like that and not docking pay if you needed to take half a day off for a doctors/dentists or needed to go home because one of your kids was taken ill.

Once you get out of the whole logistics and transport sector you’ll find that the way employees are treated is infinitely better. Thats why I have found that the best companies to drive for are ones where they don’t make their money from the transport but run their own wagons doing their own work.
