BBC Travel - about 10.45 today:

A1 Nottinghamshire - A1 Worksop Road closed and delays northbound between Apleyhead in Clumber Park and Blyth South junction in Blyth, because of a serious accident involving a lorry and a cyclist. Diversion in operation.

I passed it going south, there was a push bike laid on the grass with a hi biz laid next to it, it did at first look like it was covering something but it wasn’t, the was a vosa bod inspecting the wagon and drag, that’s all I saw but push bike against lorry doesn’t sound to good…

He will be dead or it wouldnt be shut

Cyclist killed at 4.30 this morning, when involved in collision with HGV… I know its a terrible thing to happen, and I realise that cyclists have as much right to be on roads as anyone, but I would never in a million years venture onto a dual carriageway on a pushbike…

That is 2 killed in the last few weeks in the same area, as wasn’t 1 killed on S/bound c/way just recently ?

I was thinking the exact same thing, madness being on a dual carriageway on a bicycle but even more so at 4;30 am when it’s pitch black.

RIP to the guy, Sometimes its the only fesable way to commute, there are places round here that are all but impossibe to get to with out riding on a duel carrageway. Dual carrageways must be some of the most dangerous roads, I don’t even like driving on them for fear of pedestrians/cyclists horses and fast moving traffic cutting in and out and undertaking :smiling_imp:

is this the second accident at same area?

Appeal to woman over fatal A1 cyclist crash

Cyclist dies in crash with lorry

Police in Nottinghamshire are urging a woman they believe may have witnessed a fatal crash on the A1 to contact them.

Cyclist Andrew Ridsdale, 43, from West Yorkshire, was taking part in a time trial on 18 March when he was in collision with an HGV on the A1.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw the collision at about 08:55 GMT near Blyth, in particular a woman taken home by a driver in a hi-vis vest.

The woman called in at Flo’s Cafe and said she had witnessed the crash.

The 42-year-old HGV driver was arrested for death by dangerous driving and was later released on bail.

Presumably, only on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving at this stage. Which I think is fairly standard practice in a fatal accident.

RIP

Jet2.com trailers are Fowler Welch and 4.30am sounds about right for the trunkers heading back to Washington and the Loads to Scotland

Looks Like Fowler Welch aint having much luck this year

I saw a Carpet Right, wag&drag being towed in the closed section by a wrecker this afternoon as I came past. Queue was 7 miles N.Bound :open_mouth:
I went through this morning at 6.30, wondered what had happened.
Southbound was closed last Saturday in the same area too, with no obvious reason as to why.

I passed this one this morning while travelling south.Carpet company wag ‘n’ drag involved.BBC news say a 61year old cyclist was killed.R.I.P
I agree with what others have said, why would anyone want to cycle on a road like the A1 when they don’t have to? Wherever this chap was going he would have to leave at the next exit anyway, surely safer to go through Blyth village.

Cycling on the A1 is dangerous enough when you have to use it to get to work, but how the hell do they consider it safe to hold time trials and races on it :open_mouth:

It’s standard practice if there is a fatality or potential fatality - driver will be arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, breathalised, tacho copied & the truck (and normally the load as well) impounded until it’s had a VOSA inspection. Driver will be instantly released on bail.

At THAT time of the morning??

Anyone see the cyclist on the A1 between Gosforth and Seaton Burn up here? Ok, cyclist on a dual carriage way again, but you can get hell of a cross wind along there.

You can’t exactly pull out to lane 2 when you got tin box steering wheel attendants screaming past alongside you! :imp:

Where would you stand if they were blown into your path and you had no where to go?

Rip to the chap that died, I know it’s standard procedure to arrest the driver but why? If someone got run over by a train, do they arrest the train driver? It seems that there is an assumption of guilt instead of innocence. When it always says in the news reports, driver arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving…people will automatically assume the truck driver did something wrong. So if getting out of your lorry to find someone dead under your wheels isn’t bad enough, when the busys arrive they’ll slap the cuffs on you.

In the dock I presume for passing too close

When driving a motor vehicle especially a HGV you have a duty of care to all other road users, unless there was good evidence that the cyclist acted erratically then the driver is to blame, if there is any chance that the cyclist could get blowen around then you should not pass, or pass with plenty of room, I.E. the next lane
Sounds like hard work but is getting you load of washing powder or what ever els to the store a few seconds earlier really worth putting someones life at risk for

I saw it around 8ish, carpetright, bike on verge with lone copper and a tape. Couldnt see if anything was under the tarp i was in car but the missis swears there was. RIP
